Default Protos 500 Stretch - Stock un-thrusted tail?

Just need a consensus on this - still completing the stretch. Does anyone fly on the stretch doing hard 3D smack, with the stock tail (no thrust bearings) without issues? What tail pinion and what headspeed?

If you do and have no issues, I'm wondering why the thrusted tail was brought out as an 'upgrade'? What issue exactly was it meant to solve?

The reason I'm asking is because I have the stock tail on, which the previous owner said flies well, but I also have the thrusted tail parts, which the previous owner said had a binding issue that couldn't be solved, so he put the stock back on.

I'm wondering if it's worthwhile for me to put the thrusted tail on and work through the issues to get it right...

Thanks!

I've been running thrusted tail on both my Protos without issue for hundreds of flights doing 3D. No problems here. Not sure what issues other have been having but there must be a part in the kit that is not within spec and causing an issue. Too bad no one has been able to figure it out. I offered someone here to send me their thrusted tail kit and I would try to see if I had the same issue, but he didn't take me up on the offer.

Believe it or not, on the unstretched I'm having great success with the thrusted infinity hobby one (came with the heli 2nd hand), which I run on 2800rpm with 18T tail pinion (ie fast).

Im leaving it there cos its perfect, and I don't want to butcher that for the stretch only to end up with 2 terrible tails and nights troubleshooting.

Matt, what tail pinion and headspeed are you running?

Alex, what was the reason for your switch to trusted?

The stock tail hubs that I had and even the news ones I bought had the tail shaft hole off center by 0.1 to 0.2 mm. This would cause excessive vibes that I couldn't cure. The thrusted tail hubs didn't have this problem and my tails spin with very little vibrations. That was the only reason I switched.

I have the stretch kit, so whatever gear that comes in the kit, 18t I think. I believe I have around 2600rpm head speed. I figured it by math; I haven’t had a chance to use my tach because I fly by myself usually. (Not very helpful explanation I know)

No that actually helps a lot cos I plan on around the same headspeeds.. Maybe a tad lower

I thought I read 2700rpm hs is where it is at?
I'm loving 3100 on my mini stretch!

I'm running 2800 gov on the unstretched.

I'm thinking 2400-2500 gov on the stretched... Protos 500.

Is the stretch 'better' at 2700rpm? Haven't flown yet but I thought that's a little too high?
