align 500 pro w/ 4 blade head problems
Hey guys,
I`ve got a align trex 500 pro (not dfc) & a align 4 blade head. i have the stock mainshaft, it`s what they call for in the instructions for the head. (148.8mm) I made the links the length they called for in the instructions. (53mm center to center) When i move the collective stick to full positive i still have negative pitch. The set up in the 3gx is the same as i had when i flew the stock head. Do i need the dfc mainshaft? It`s 140mm long, which seems like that would give me 0 degrees at half stick. My servo arms are level at half stick. My servo to swash links are screwed in tight so i have room to screw them out. Any recommendationson what i should do? I`m gonna run a 10 tooth pinion instead of 11 tooth. Any suggestions on the throttle curve settings & pitch`s? (i`m guessing -3 or -4 & +10?) Any help will be greatly appreciated ! conk |

no worries hope it all works out OK
If you are using the standard Align motor 1600kv you are going to have too fast a headspeed for 4 blades. If you change the motor to get a headspeed of 1600 to 1800 rpm you will get longer flight times and things will run cooler. Uglybob that commented on that post gets 10mins with 3300mAh battery running at 1600rpm. I thought 1600 rpm was a bit low it felt like it had nothing in reserve but that's just my preference.

I was gonna use a 10 tooth pinion. I thought i`d lower the throttle curve to drop the hs. I was thinking 17 or 1800 rpm. I need to find a hs calculator & try to figure it out. I`m installing a dfc shaft in it right now. I got my 4 blades today. I`ve got plenty of batteries so shorter flight times don`t bother me.
thanks again for all your help ozflyer. john |

Wheres'd you source a 10 or 11 tooth? Straight or slant gear?

There aren't any. You need to use a 1210 KV or 1300 KV motor for a four blade rotor head setup. Around 1700 rpm is the sweet spot for the 500 size with four rotor blades. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Hmm, thought I'd read guy's sourcing M.6 straight 11tooth.
I will try with a 12 and throttle down. I plan on 3D flying this so likely will keep head speed higher than conventional scale setup to keep tail stronger. Will reduce main rotor pitch to 9/10 degrees to keep load of the motor and tail some. Worst case I'll grab the 1210/1400Kv from Hyperion.
