G, sounds like fun mate. Just a week??? It'll go way too quick.

The anti-rotation bracket literally took 30 secs. The pics make it look bigger than what it is.

Using a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ7. Just a pocket camera, point and shoot thing. Does take decent pics though. I can't be fussed with all the the settings etc, so just half hold button/focus,, goes beep, press. Not putting any extra effort into lighting, settings etc. but works well enough for me. Can do 12mega pixel but is on medium at the mo, about 5 i think. Also has 12x optical zoom and does HD vids up to 5mins at a time.

50mm more on the servo leads would be terrific but the futaba ones are quite shortish when compared to some others. Think i have it sorted though. Have a spektrum VR5203 reg on it for the gyro/tail and will be running a LiFe batt(when it shows!!).
The Gy520 also makes it a pain as has the plug for all the leads to go into. Trying to get that neat is fun.

Hopefully will be all done in the next day or so.

Default wiring time

Apologises for the delay. I was waiting for all the associated bits to show.

Well i really made my life a bit difficult in this section.
GY520 with it's little lead and that junction box!!! A hyperion Life 850mah receiver batt and a Spektrum VR5203 regulator. Combined with short futaba servo leads, super long futaba Gy520 receiver to junction box leads made it fiddly but i think we got a solution. There is a fair bit of room at the very rear of the heli that helped get everything tucked away.

If i used the bec, a quark and the servo leads were 50mm longer would've been a walk in the park. But all these extras are my fault not the heli's.

Also notice that Gaui have been very thoughtful in this area. Numerous slots in the frame and even holes placed closely for use of cable ties. A bit hard to see in the pics, but the holes are the same on both sides.

I could have hid the ESC to motor wires but i fiddle too much.

Other side

Futaba R6008HS between frames and Spektrum reg at rear.

GY520 junction thingie!!! But hopeflluy the slots in the frames are able to be made out.

Ready to fly weight just 2.7kg. Batt Hyperion 6S 4200 comes in at 680g.

So that's it. Just a few radio settings to sort and to fly.

For me it's been an enjoyable build . I might be alittle biased but have been genuinely impressed with the quality. The flybar/anti-rotation bracket is the only issue i can see.

The heli looks quick sitting on the bench, i am feeling a bit intimidated but i have a feeling it's going to be a load of fun.

Hope everyone has enjoyed the build thread. I very much enjoyed doing it.
Any questions ,please yell out and i'll answer as best i can

Once again, i want to thank Jack and the the team and Empire Hobby for their efforts
in getting this awesome heli to Oz.

Would have to be one of the nicest, straight forward ,helpful people i have dealt and should be commended for the lengths they go to help Gaui become a better known/respected brand. You guys over in the states are very lucky buggers to have these dealers near.

Hopefully get some flight vids up soon.

Vas

You clearly suffer from OCD, that wiring job is the dogs doonangs!

Your thread will be of great reference when it comes time to build my X5. Thanks again for taking the time to provide us with great quality pictures and explanations.

My skill set does not demand an advanced electric layout such as yours so will be keeping mine simple. DS610 cyclic servo's with 100mm extensions (already purchased - thanks for the heads up on that one bud)! Factory ESC, AR7000 receiver and Quark with DS650 tail servo . Hope it will be ok?

Be sure to shoot some movie of your maiden flight and post up bro!

G.

PS. Currently buying all my stuff from Infinity Hobby in Taiwan, will have to check out Empire Hobby since they come so highly recommended.

Thanks Scott. Can't wait to get her in the air. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

G, thanks. It's a pleasure mate. Hopefully the pics make the X5 a bit more easy to see where everything is. It is a super simple kit to put together.

I'm an auto-elec and messy wiring drives me nuts LOL

I have some 610's here and had a look last night. If yours have the same wiring lengths, they should be plenty long enough to reach the bottom tray. Setup sounds tops The 610's are known to be power hungry, so if you start really pushing the servos,my opinion would be a external bec etc. But in saying that, i haven't measured the output of the esc bec to know exactly what it's capable of.

Good luck with the build. I'm sure you'll have a ball

Thank Mike.
Hopefully the weather holds tomorrow and should be sweet. It's damn cold at my club and being on a plateau, the wind cuts through you like ice...... but i don't think i'll even notice once she spools up.

Another thing i noticed that i like is the that the main grip extensions(levers) clear the headblock when pushed over extremes. I can't say how nice that is as after any blade touch with the hurri cnc ones i have to replace the grip levers as they hit the headblock easily and always bend.

Just a little update that was a result of a query about a bulge in the positive wire going to the ESC.

Looks like Gaui are fitting kits with built in spark arrestors and also the new kits have gold coloured speedies. Flybar paddles have changed slightly and now screw on further and with one grub screw.

Pics thanks to what-d-heli (Joel) and to benben for poinitng out what it was. Thanks heaps guys.

Hi Torana74,

Good day my mate.

Is there any chances you might help me look into your X5 tail drive system abit.
I am guessing the that the tail pulley is the only different to change between TT and belt drive.. see link below.

http://www.infinity-hobby.com/main/p...oducts_id=5836

http://www.infinity-hobby.com/main/p...roducts_id=814

and yes.. I prefer belt drive. It is more forgiving but love the direct CCPM tho.

Jon,yes seems like just the pulley is different. Same shaft.
When i was assembling i thought i noticed it might need a spacer to be under the pulley and above the bearing. First chance i get i will look and see what can be done.
BTW. I've been using the TT for a while now and many a tail touch. Only time i've done gears was crash related. They are quite robust.

I will try a conversion this eve if the little one gets to bed at a decent hour

Default belt conversion

okies, i tried to do a belt conversion. Was going to plan. Second higher hole on tail drive perfect for the gear change. Will have to be spaced a little between the gear and top bearing.about 5mm, or take the apart an old bearing and use the inner. 550 boom is same dimensions. Tops. Belt is too long . Because the front boom clamp is placed closer to the gear, there is too much excess on the belt. Tried a 500 boom belt, too short with the 550 boom

Remounting the front boom clamp towards the rear about 20mm will do it but as i'm not going to run belt , i didn't want to put holes in the frame. Needs 4 holes drilled and one in the top for the carbon gyro plate thingie. Might also give the length to run 550's

There's no doubt in can be done though. If belt is your thing, a little time and a couple of holes, a little spacer and X5 belt drive is done. Tail pushrod would also need a little extension. The gaui joiner will work great.
Hope that helps.

Vas

Thanks for your finding...
appreciated. I was thinking building a carbon frame for my hurri550.

The X4 from www.pitchup.se catches my attention. I love that frame but not much info cound be found here for it.

Jon, personally if you want to stay with the belt system and don't want to mod(is very easy mod,4 holes a 5mm spacer), Ben's (Wazzer) Headhunter frames would be the go for the dollars.
I'm fairly sure Gaui is working on a direct fit belt system for the X5 aswell. The X4 seems steeply priced and the only place carrrying the frames seems to be pitchup.

Yeh.. Ben's HH frame was in my consideration too. I am no hurry tho.
First need to rebuild my crashed hurri.. put in a few more flight and see how things work out.

What is the ideal battery size for the X5? 4000? 5000?

Also, does anyone in Oz. stock Gaui spares?

Stock Gaui battery is 4200. I've used Align 5200, Turnigy 5000 and Flightmax 5000. The 5000s made the heli to heavy up front.

Just got a new 6S 4200mah 25C LiPo for my X5 and I find the balance to be perfect.
