Want an SR, but have questions.
Hey everyone, I have only flown/owned one R/C heli (I come from R/C truggies, buggies and monster trucks) which is my blade CX2. I love the heli, but I am kind of keen to get something I can take outdoors. From what I've read, if you can control a CX2, you can control an SR with some patience.
I just want to know the answer to a few questions: How much harder is it to control an SR to a CX2? What can I expect as far as its ability outside? I'd like to be able to fly it in light wind if I had to. My CX2 is the only heli I've flown (I bought it used) and it has a mode 2 radio (I think), the throttle is on the right side and the other controls are on the left. If I buy an SR, can I bind my radio I have now with the gyro on the SR so I can retain this backward way of flying? I know it sounds silly, but I've adapted to it haha. Is there a BNF version of the SR? If not, is there a version of the SR that I can buy that is "mode 2" and has the same radio that I am used to? How much faster is this heli compared to a CX 2? Does its abilities allow for inverted flight? (I won't be trying this for a long time obviously, but I may get adventurous one day). People have told me to get a bigger heli, but to be honest I like the idea of the SR because I can still fly it inside and out, it seems as if I'd be able to manouvre it more than a CX2 once I got the hang of it and it's cheap. I am more into 1/1 cars now (saving for an R34 skyline hehe you americans can't get them easily jk) and I want to spend as little as possible on the hobby, I just want to have fun, not be hugely engulfed in it like I have been with my truggies, buggies and trucks. Thanks guys. |

I have to run at the moment, but here is a vid of mine showing its speed for now. More later...
Its a lot faster than a coaxial. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3MQfsnOt4k[/ame]

Bad thing about Australia - 100 a month for 10gb of data and I am pretty into my modern warfare 2 on live, sooo my internet is pretty capped now and I can't watch videos. Loading a page is bad enough! I will look at it in the next fortnight though, haha.
Thanks for the vid. |

Also one more question... I am looking at getting one from amain, or some other US store for the price saving, but the American charger won't fit my wall socket. Obviously my CX2 wall socket will plug into the SR's charger, but will it work? The reason I ask is because the American SR charge box (the part that flashes red and green) would be used to a different current coming from the part that plugs in at the wall.
Failing that, can a CX2 charger charge an SR battery? If so I am set. Thanks in advance for any replies. |

much harder to fly. here is my video also if you get a chance to watch it. . it does fly inverted, i dont advise you to fly it inside your house unless you are extremely good with it and even than i would not do it.
it does fine in the wind, i have flown mine in 20 mph winds and it was very hard to control but does fine in 5-10 mph winds if you are good with it . it can get going pretty fast. the stock TX is mode 2 you can not get a BNF version but if you have a nice TX like a dx6i you can use it on the SR its a great learning tool, the tail motor sucks and the tail boom bends easily if you have a tail strike. usually when i crash it it cost me less than 10 bucks to fix, i have carbon fiber blades so they dont break up like the wood ones. they have saved me money on blades. The SR is a lot harder to fly than a Coaxial heli. I have a mCX S300, an mSR, and an SR.
I fly indoors in my garage in an area about 9' by 10'. However I did my first hovering over grass, bad idea, and then in a parking lot before I was comfortable enough to fly in the garage. You MAY want to consider an SR 120 or mSR. They are smaller fixed pitch RTF heli's that would be an easier transition. I recommend a simulator. Thay are a bunch of free and low cost options.

I went from coax to an SR , what a challenge.
It is not boaring , that's for sure , make sure you have the funds to keep it in the air , its a cheep heli but you will spend x2 the price in parts till you learn to fly. |

I'm not trying to discouarge you,
But the SR is a real CP heli. Your CX2 (or CXToy as some call it) is a inddor coax. The SR is pretty much only going to be flown outdoors if youdant hae a gym. Te SR also won't hover itself like the CX2 does. And is way faster. You will have to re-learn flying. You aren't gonna be able to just pop up and fly like your CX2 at first. Now, for a CP heli the SR is very easy to fly. It's really stable too. You should go for it if you think your ready, just don't except to be able to fly it at first. Oh and when you crash, you will break much more then just blades like on the CX2.

What you are describing is Mode 1, the most common in Australia. Most rc in USA is Mode 2 with throttle and rudder on left stick and elevator and ailerons (or cyclic) on right stick.
