DS95i Report After Installing
Did this servo fix my tail wag you ask? The answer to that question is hell yes it did. I love this servo. I can't believe the performance it provides. Not only did it get rid of my tail wag, but it now performs better then my larger helis. For some reason the head actually feels more stable. I will never buy an Align servo again. This thing is well worth the $85.00. If you are considering it, but are on the fence because of the price I say do it.

It was terrible. About 4 to 5 inches of oscillation. There was nothing I could do to get rid of it. All changing the gain did was either speed it up or slow it down. I rebuilt the tail, lubricated everything, and centered everything many times. Nothing would fix it.

If you do get one make sure to change the band width in the gyro from 1520 to 760. Also the sweet spot for my gain was 83 on a dx8.

The Servo will not function if you don't change the band width. It the 1st option of the tail setup on the 3gx.

Another thing. When selecting it on the 3gx you have to move the rudder stick to left twice to set it. Left once secrets 760, and then you push left a second time to confirm it. If you only do it once it won't stay in 760 mode when you exit out of the setup mode.

I may post this in a new thread, but why wouldn't the ds93 work as well? The speed is as fast as an old futaba 9257 with much more torque. It is $33 cheaper. I'm also looking at the dst 215mg, which also has the same excellent speed with more torque than necessary.

I'd be interested to know as well. The DS93 is the same speed as the stock DS425m but almost twice the torque. I think speed is worth more on a tail servo than torque on this small of a application tho.

The extra torque from the ds95 is what cures all the ills though. Not sure the speed is really making the difference. No matter how hard you work on the tail, it seems to have issues. So the higher torque makes up for other problems, even if your heli is in good shape. I just wonder if the other servos will do the job as well, at considerably reduced cost.

Your gain is up to 83 on your DX8??? I'm at like 35! That's incredible.

I moved the cyclic balls in one hole on my 250 and the gain changes required to compensate were substantial! |

Yeah, mines at 4.5 to 5mm also and gain is 47. Shorter center to center is desirable.

I'll to double check, was mentioning that from memory. I think it probably is closer to 5 mm.

My DS95i comes UPS today. I got my 250se on trade with a JR mini tail servo and it's plagued me from the start. This thread inspired the purchase. Now I just need to get these damn boom clamp screws to break free

That's cool that you are getting the DS95i. It's a great servo. It can also be an expensive Band-Aid applied over a less-than-ideal tail setup. It will work best if you do everything you can first to make sure the tail linkages move freely with a minimum of binding and slop, you have the best blades for your headspeed, and so on (the various "solutions" in the tail wag thread are worth a look, most notably a bearing kit and weights from my experience). Just my .02, having been down the 250 tail wag road over the years...
