Default 500e Pro, Idle up screech

Hey, I tried Idle-up on my 500 today for the first time and I think I know what I did wrong but want to check.

On my smaller birds I can hit idle up pretty quick, I only had the 500 going at about 20% throttle in normal mode and when I hit IU it screeched really loud.

Of course I tried it again a little faster and it did it again.

The tried time I got the head speed up pretty high and hit IU and it went fine, scared the hell out of me and I flew it in normal mode

I'm still intimidated by this thing

Anyway I hovered and some forward flight for 3 packs and it all seemed well, but looking back I most likely should not have flown it until I found out what the noise was

any idea?

it;s a 500E Pro super combo, 500Mx motor and 70Amp ESC, gears look fine, is it possible I spun the pinion on the shaft?

Maybe the Motor makes that noise when you do stupid things?

Anyway, thanks y'all rock!

So you went into idle up when only at 20% throttle in normal mode?? you probably heard the one way bearing crying for help. you can also strip the main gear doing that.

Correct sorry - I was in normal mode on the ground, about 20%

OK I'll tear it down and check out the one way.

Thanks! - one of these days I'll get it right

Just check to see if the one way bearing is loose or spins in the hub. if so you can CA it or use green loctite.

Thank you that would have been the next question if I found it loose!

I appreciate it very much!

+1. Been a lot of OWB spinning inside the hub lately, even on new machines. I just re-did mine last night with Green retainer. Had red loctite before and it still spun. Just clean the surfaces good with alcohol or lighter fluid before you reapply the retaining coumpound..

I used CA on my last hub/owb and it never gave me trouble after that. I'm using a pro hub/owb right now and have not had any issues *cross fingers*

What I do is set the OWB assy over a deep socket that will allow the OWB to fall into it. Then put the OWB sleeve in the bearing and an old mainshaft in the sleeve and tap it out.

+1... I have sockets that I use to knock it out, and another to hold the assembly as I knock the OWB out. Works great.

Not much to it really. The socket I use is an 11/16" which would be about a 16mm.

Sockets and a c-clamp work good also if you don't want to bang it with a hammer. Or better yet, a arbor press from harbor freight. Comes in handy for many things.

+1 on the arbor press. On my list of things I want. I have a small drill press I keep meaning to get out and make do with that but always forget. The hammer is always closer.

Hee Hee. I worked with a tech once who's two favorite tools were a hammer and a cresent wrench (adjustable spanner). If his wrench didn't fit, he'd beat it into submission.

This is for a 450;

Align makes one for the 600 as well, but kind of strange they don't make one for the 500?
