Nice, I like that. I just redid my motor and adjustments sure are a PITA with the current design.

Does anyone know how well these Rakon motor mounts are holding up?
I discovered a broken stock motor mount on my 450 Pro today and have to have a new one and if these work like they say Im gonna get one.

Mine is so far so good for about 6 flights...

Seems like a lot of people having good luck with this.
I just installed it on my old 450 Pro (Align) and it doesn't work. I have tightened the 4 screws so tightly that I will strip the aluminum out of the rails if I go any tighter. But, the motor mount still slides fore and aft with only modest pressure. I discovered this when I spooled up and the motor backed off the pinion right as the motor got up to speed. So, no it definitely won't be 'good enough' in this case. Anyone else? What could be the issue? It's a stock 450. And, I can't imagine a CNC part would be out of spec.

Yes, KDE version of this kind of motor mount is an alternative which you could try. It costs more than Rakon though.
My Rakon mount had been good to my 450 (over 240 flights). Motor does not move at all.

The way i see it in your video, on the instruction sheet, the screw tips are supposed to make pressure on the inner rail, preventing movement ? If that's the case, removing the washers would provide you with more pressure on the inner rail, but seems like they used bolts that are too short in your kit. Though, if they are too long, they won't contact the frame correctly either. Seems like a bad design to me at least, unless there's something else i didn't see.

The screws are to "pull" inner rail against the motor mount when tigtened and stop it's movement in back and forth direction. I think it could not be too long otherwise, screw tip would touch motor mount and exert pressure onto the track of motor mount. So most likely, as daver18qc said, screws were too short to grep on the inner rail and provide not enough pressure on motor mount.
KDE motor mount design is the same as Rakon.

I actualy got two replies from RKH. The first I showed the video. The second was from the designer himself. He confirmed the screws are NOT supposed to act as set screws, and that the rails themselves must be out of spec.
They offered a full refund. But, I just asked for advice to make them work. He suggested sanding down the rails until they could not be pulled flush with or exceed the outer dimension of the inner motor mount. Of course, I couldn't be that patient to wait for an answer. I did in fact get some longer screws to set against the inner motor mount and that is working fine. But, next time I have to tear down I'll be sanding down the rails as advised.

Oh alright i get it now!
Those screws aren't supposed to "pinch" the inner rail (motor mount) but instead they're supposed to pull the outer rails until the inner rail contacts the frame firmly and stop it from moving. So your outer rails are in fact too thick and contact the frame before the inner rail contacts it, preventing it from locking into the frame. Now that makes more sense !

My KDE ones are perfect, but I have to remember to use 5mm M2.5 screws on them instead of the 6mm ones that I use almost everywhere else on my 450's. |
