What battery are you using?
I have my ATOM 500 back and loving it. One thing I noticed is that it's a bit nose heavy with my Turnigy 6s 3000 Mah battery. No shifting or adjusting can sort out the CG to a comfortable level (don't get me wrong, it flies beautifully, but I do have to keep after the nose). I'm thinking that there must be a better battery choice for this heli. Anyone have any suggestions?

I use SLS Xtron 3000mAH and it weighs around 490g. But I'm using a standard sized tail servo and mounted the ESC after the main shaft to have right CG.

I am also using a full size tail servo. My ESC is mounted under the chassis of the heli right about at the main shaft. I'll have a look a the one you're using. Have to weigh mine to see the difference.

Just weight my battery and it comes in at 495gms. Heli flies fine with it, but CG is a bit nose heavy.. Not much out there that will change that.

If the CG is off a bit I won't worry much as the FBL controller will compensate for it. You will most likely have different brand battery packs in the near future and you can never get the CG 100% perfect for each one of them
I've tried both 2650 nano-tech and 3000 turnigy and among the two the turnigy is the better one as it is more consistent and gives longer flight times. But I wouldn't buy them again as SLS is the best I've tried so far. I'm sure you would get other good packs in the US. For sport flying I would estimate 350mAH per minute (governed@2600RPM). So if you want to have a long battery life I'd limit the discharge to 60%. So 2650 gives 4.5 mins (2650*0.6/350) 3000 gives 5.1 mins If you want to further extend the battery life, limit the charge termination to 4.15 Volts per cell. http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/a...ased_batteries

Yes, I'm running the Turnigy 6s 3000MAH 40C right now. I get about 5 minutes just cruising around in the sky. 3 minutes or so if I get 'professional"...(Assuming that I don't get professionally earthbound... Thank you Spirit and BD for the RESCUE function!)...
My packs are getting a little old so I am looking for replacements. I guess I'll stick with the Turnigy's for now. They are also the least expensive. |
