Default Motor starts hard

The motor on my MCPX starts hard but runs fine after it starts. (not sure how long it would run as I have problems keeping it in the air(pilot difficulty))
I have to give it 1/3rd throttle to get it moving but you can see it is trying to turn.
If I turn it by hand it turns in jumps rather that smooth. I presume I need a new motor but was curious if any one else has had this problem. Thanks; Don

Some motors start more easily than others. If this motor used to start smoothly, but is now hard to start, it may be getting worn out.

Another cause could be the main motor FETs. I have a main board that has a smooth start-up and one that is a hard starter. This follows the board around when they are switched between choppers. The "hard-starter" also is a bit down on power - all else being equal.

I bought this used so I do not know how it was. I took the main gear off and the motor turns as if it has very strong magnets.
So far once it starts I'd does not make any unusual noise and a pears to run fine.

Sounds like the motor is just a hard starter. If it gets worse or loses power, get a new one.

Default Motor starts hard

The mCP X does start hard. The main rotor blades do not freely spin like the rest of the helicopters.

Why does it do this?
It is not a brushless motor.
My only thought is that it is not a "core less" motor like many of the small helis but has a motor with a metal core and wire wound around it.

Default Motor starts hard

The motor is not brushless (BLH3503)......

From this site:
http://www.eflightwiki.com/eflightwi...X_known_issues

The motor has strong 'cogging' making it much harder to turn by hand than the mSR and mCX. It also doesn't start turning until about 1/4 to 1/2 throttle. This is normal and not a problem—although it may worry people who are not used to it..

I've also noticed that tired batteries have an effect on motor starts.
