Default Scorpion V 130A ESC fire - third time (un)lucky

Seems I have endless bad luck with this ESC.

- first one smoked and died on the ground when I maidened the Goblin 700 (http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=393616)

- while it was sent back to Scorpion, I bought another brand new Scorpion V 130A ESC, which lasted 14 flights till it burped and died mid hover. So we had this second story: http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=423950

- Today I put the first ESC (repaired) back in, while second one was back at Scorpion on RMA, 10 second into first flight, a pitch pump and it was on fire. Damn fire also killed my packs, RX pack is burnt and flight packs are both leaking so they are goners.

I've asked Scorpion for replacements instead of repair. I dont trust "repair" jobs anymore. Hope Georges either see this or read email.

Sigh ....

Ok man... if you smoked 3 in a row.. there is something bogus with your setup.

there is no way to smoke 3 in a row unless you have a short or a config problem.

yes there have been some bad ones out there but not 3 in a row.

you need to send in your motor and have them check it as well.
something is causing the failures.

First one was not a failure, it smoked on the ground and was then found to be faulty (a controller chip died).

I'd be happy to send motor back too. Waiting for reply from Scorpion.

I'm sorry but i had 2 failure in a row as well and my setup is perfect. i works like a charm withe YGE 160 / Gryphon bec instead of scorpion commander.
So statisticaly i agree, but with this product, don't jump too fast on conclusions (motor fine, also sent back with the ESC).

Guys..sorry to here about your failures.
I had 4 fail..but the first three were on the same Motor, and the 4th one not sure what happened since it was a different motor. They were all SBEC ver units.
I decided to give the opto ver a try as scorpion replaced my units with those as the SBEC was not available....

Well, I have been flying this opto ver now for the last month and I've been once again very impressed. 120+ flights on one and 30+ on the other both running vbar gov and 2s lipo for Rx power.
Anyway, just wanted to give a positive report for this esc....everything is flying amazingly well and a BIG THANKYOU to scorpion again for the excellent customer service. If not for that I would have jumped ship a long time ago!!

Thanks for the info sjsamuel. I did not think about this either. I've emailed Scorpion and ask for replacements as OPTO units too, as I do not use, need or want the BEC portion of it. Guess more electronic on the same area just makes things more complex and easier to fail too.

you need to check and see if your motor mount screw is going to far in and shorting on the windings in the motor
take the motor out
take it apart and look at the windings
if you see worn or scrapped wiring you motor mount screws are to long and are costing you money you shouldnt be spending
