New YS 120 hard to turn over
I'm having a difficult time starting/turning over a new YS 120. Using an Align starter it will slowly turn the motor over but not fast enough to start it. Initially I did not loosen the glow plug and it spun the fan hub on the crankshaft. After installing a new fan hub I loosened the glow plug but only approximately one thread. How much can you loosen it to get the motor started? Thanks.

I loosened the glow plug quite a bit and got the motor started. I let it idle for about five minutes, shut if off and tightened the glow plug back up. It started just fine and even hovered it for a half tank to start breaking in the motor. My Align starter just barely gets it turned over to start. Just thought I'd let everyone know I got it running. Thanks.

I discovered the Align starter was a POS. I have a Dynatron with a 4000mAH 4S pack. No Hammering, NO PROBLEMS-just make sure you get the new style starter shafts that are hardened. The chrome ones will strip out.

I have a Dynatron but the battery pack I'm using is only 14.4v and will not turn the motor over. Is it all right to use a 6s lipo pack at 22.2v? That might be what I need to turn this motor over. The Align starter does turn it over but jerks/hammers terribly.

I had to go with a Dynatron on 4S too. My Align starter wouldn't even turn the 120 when it was new. I think the newer Align starters may turn a broken-in 120.

I've got the Dynatron starter and use 6s with no problem. This has been my starter for 2 or 3 years now with no issues. As to power, I know it's been used to start 120-180 size airplane engines with no issue.
