Hey Bob,

Can you comment on the cyclic phasing when you post your flight report? There's a thread on the otheRR site complaining about significant phasing errors, supposedly experienced by a handful of people, and it would be nice to have your take on it. I can't believe the heli would have gotten to market if it was a serious design flaw.

OK flight test video is in the first post links... But here is what I posted there:

Flight test. This is my 3rd flight after getting the heli trimmed and G770 gyro tweaking. In the video you will see a wag in some turns and piros. My gain was still too high at 19% true gain. I lowered it to 22 in my X9303 end point which is 15% true gain, and now no more wag or jerky piros. 15% may sound low but thats what it took. Tail still holds on hard punch outs, etc. DO NOT worry that your gain on this gyro is too low! My SolidG is this number on my logo too....
Anyway here is the video:

Great video and flying Bob!

Looks like yours flies very similarly to mine!

Very cool!

Would you recommend a different ESC to get better soft start?
This is my first big bird after a CX2 and RealFlight...

Thanks

I realize you asked Finless, but if you don't mind another answer, I have about 50 flights on mine, with the stock ESC.

You just have to raise the throttle very, very slowly at the very first.

I'm happy with the stock esc. I just raise the throttle slowly, always have, nitro or electric.

Actually, my question was just directed to any of you who own an Atom-
Thanks! for the replies-

I have been "hovering" (pun intended), in the forum for a while and am impressed with all the participation-

I am just waiting for my radio and rx, and I will have Atom pretty much ready to go.

I have a mentor who will be helping me get it all set up and get me flying shortly-

I wanted to ask the Atom group my specific questions as my mentor is quite busy and the Atom is not prevelant (yet) here in the C-attle area.

Can't wait to introduce it to the field.

Thanks again.

Bob, help a first year pilot here please. I'm curious whether your answer with the Atom might apply to issues doing flips with my 450 that I have wondered about???

In the flight video you mention the Atom not having any phazing issues while doing flips with the heli. If the Atom WAS having phazing issues what flight characteristic would we see the heli exhibiting?

Phazing is something I have read about, but to honest my mind has not grasped what it actually equates to in flight. :o

Thank ya!

Consistant forward or backward flips would cause a roll off to the left or right you would have to correct for. I did not have to correct my flips. Then in rolls you might see a cork screw roll due to the phasing being off and have to correct with elevator.

Make sense now?

I take it you need the programming card to enable gov mode on the stock ESC? Which pinion are you using and what % for the gov mode? I'm running the 9t with 100% flat and it has good power, but I would like a bit longer flight times. I've been considering running a CC Esc and using a 10t and goverining it at 2800rpms or so, but it seems to have plenty of power already, so thats probably a ways down the road. I

Also, are you using Swash Expo or not? I'm getting goofy corkscrewing on mine, and im wondering i just dont need to go back through and redo the entire head without swash expo. I was trying it on this heli for the first time. I dont use it on my 450, but figured I would give it a try on the Atom.

I'm also curious how much cyclic and collective you are running. I dont remember you mentioning this on the build videos.

Thanks.

Thank you Bob. That's the exact issue I have doing mutiple flips with my Mini Titan. It always starts to roll right with multiple rotations. I thought it was just me leaning on the airleron and not realizing it. No adjustable phazing block on my MT (and many other models) so I guess I just learn to fly adjustment.

I'm 11-months in the hobby and still lot's of detail stuff to learn! The learning is the best part of any new interest for me anyway!

Bye the way, did your Atom not seem to be quite as high performance with stock components as did the Knight 600e with stock components??? Looks like the Atom's power-to-weight ratio wasn't on par with the 600e???

I think that the phasing is off unless you use the blades that bob was sent with Bob's kits. The phasing is off when you use Radixs and other blades. The other heli forum has a good thread on it.

I know that you asked Bob, but I am using Swash Expo on mine.

I have not tried it without.

Mine rolls like an arrow and flips without falling off. It also tracks properly through loops (it has the yellow FunKey blades).

Also, I don't know of anyone who has flown with the Fun Keys, taken them off, then flown with the Radixx blades to compare. I actually stopped into the local hobby shop in Glendale this afternoon, with the intention of biting the financial bullet and picking up a set of Radixx to try. The did not have any.

I may try to borrow a set.
