Default Seeking expert help. Head spinning - Auto Rotations

So I have a TREX 500 and a Compass 6HV that I'm in the process of rebuilding. On the TREX500 I can rotate the head counter clockwise very freely. The tail spins along in the same counter clock wise direction. On my 6HV, I can't sping the head counter clockwise freely, rather the motor engages.

Should by 6HV spin freely like my TREX 500? I'm trying to figure out how the 6HV could auto-rotate if the motor or ESC dies. Am I making sense? Did I install something incorrectly on my 6HV drive train?

Counterclockwise? The normal direction for rotor rotation in flight is clockwise and the head should spin clockwise very freely when the motor is not turning. Otherwise, it would be useless during autorotations. The motor should engage if the head is turned counterclockwise; otherwise, the motor wouldn't be able to drive the head.

Have you flown your T-Rex 500 lately? If the head spins counterclockwise freely, then your one-way bearing is probably toast.

And no, my 500 does not spin freely counter clockwise. Should the compass head work the same way as the 500

hard to follow this CCW/CW discussion, if the head doesnt want to spin in the proper direction make sure you haven't installed the main gear assembly upside down.

In particular, the hub with the one-way bearing. There have been known cases of the OWB being installed backwards in the hub, in which case you'd have to press it out, flip it over, and press it back in.

Bum,

You nailed it. I had the OWB installed backwards. It's all fixed now. When I rotate the head CLOCKWISE it spins freely along with the tail. Now it will autorotate properly.

Thanks All!

Hey D. LOL. Clockwise is rotating from left to right. Counter clockwise is rotating right to left. That's while you're facing it.

For the record, D gets credit for troubleshooting my stupidity. Ah, the fun of helicopters!
