Default About new tail shaft and black gears...

I received all my stuff today to upgrade my DFC with the black gears:

http://www.fxmodelrc.com/H70G005XX-P...nt-T-rex-700E/

http://www.fxmodelrc.com/H70G001AX-P...al-T-rex-700E/

http://www.fxmodelrc.com/H80G002XX-C...M1-T-rex-800E/

A few comments :

Ths first bag seems to be the only useful one for the snapping issue... all the rest seems irrelevant to the tail shaft snapping issue.

The first bag contains the new 6mm shaft (so it doesn't snap), the new hub (to fit the new shaft) and the new washers (to avoid the cupping).

The gear ratios are the same as the white ones (24 teeth... I counted and measured a few times).

So the second and third bag seem useless. I got them because I expected some difference in the ratio of the tail pignons, so I thought the front pignons and gear was meant to go with it. But it turns out the ratios are unchanged. (forget about using the DFC to cut wood, I already have a chain saw for that....)

Last... what is the 110 teeth main gear for? It has nothing to do with the tail upgrade (I got mislead by the fact they all seemed to come out in the same time). Why would anyone want to spin this thing even faster (which is what would happen if you use 110 instead of the stock 112 one)?

Or is it to in fact spin the main head at the same RPM and thus reduce the tail RPM?

Whatever... did 2 flights today with the new tail gears (haven't used the other two bags yet), and it flies just like before, which means PERFECT!

Did you encounter more slop on the Torque Tube like others have? And did you also have to sand down the umbrella gear to get it into the bearing?

I really don't fully understand the main gear you posted yet. Maybe it's better to use that gear if you are running stock designated headspeed and need more headroom for the governer (the Castle governor complains about not enough headroom).

[EDIT] There is also a black main gear with the stock ratio (112 teeth)- that is part # H70G002XX

Glad it's working out. I've got the rear kit, but haven't yet installed it.

The above is not entirely true. The 110t main gear is for either the electric or nitro model. It give you a different ratio as the stock gear is 112t. The newer kits that are either shipping now or that will be shipping shortly from Taiwan will have the new gears both main and tail in the kits

With the non moveable motor/pinion spacing, it appears the pinion and main gear won't properly mesh.

If you want to use the 110 main gear you need to get the 13t pinion

Is this confirmed? Will Align also include the front torque tube gears as well? Is it going to be T-Rex 700e DFC V2?

44.4v x 530kv = 23,532 rpm at the motor

Stock 112 / 12 = 9.33 : 1 ratio
higher ratio gearing 110 / 13 = 8.46 : 1 ratio

Stock 23532 / 9.33 = 2522 rpm max
higher ratio gearing 23532 / 8.46 = 2781 rpm max

You could use the higher headspeed ratio gearing to get better overheads for governing while using lower Kv motors, or just govern at 2300-2500 with the stock motor if you are insane

Iceman,
You are right for the 110t. States here:
●Precision CNC machined module 1 main gear for minimal noise and high energy transfer efficiency.
●Use for T-REX 700N/700E/800E. Must with H60225 Motor Pinion Helical Gear 13T

●CNC M1 Slant Thread Main drive gear(110T) x 1
●Weight:64g

Thanks for noting this, because I inadvertently ordered the 110 the first time.

Just like me, I mistakenly ordered the 110 gear, thanks for the info. I just got the wrong one it seems, I'll order the 112 tooth one then put the whole front upgrade on (although I still don't see in what way this helps avoid the tail rotor humming/snapping, but now I've got it).

Umbrella gear was a tight fit, I used the vice to push it on.

In the meantime it's been pretty nice these today, so go a few more flights in, still perfect!

I just the 112T yesterday and all gears replaced with black. I agree that it was a task to get them on....now I just need to get a maiden on the books! Good luck to you!

I just installed the new tail gears last night. Mine had very minimal looseness on the torque tube; nothing that seems like it will be a problem. There was zero looseness on the white gear so definitely a little more on the black gear.

I measured the diameter of the new umbrella gear versus the old white one and the new black gear was .20 - .25mm bigger than the white one where it needs to insert into the bearings. No way was I going to fight that into the bearings. I loaded the umbrella gear up on my cordless drill and spun it against some 180 grit until I got most of it down and then spun it on some 400 and finally some 1500 grit to smooth it out nicely. Once I got it down to the same size as the white gear the installation went well. Both bearings are very snug on the gear just like they were on the white one. Hope this helps someone else.
