Also, regarding the metal gear sets, does this kit include metal gears for three servos or only one? It appears that the kit contains gears for all three?

The kit has gears for 3 servos. They are very easy to install.

When you install the metal gear sets. You still retain the original plastic gear that contacts the motor pinion.
I have had one bad auto that resulted in a tip over since upgrading. The metal gears held up fine no stripping.

The ELG01 QRS is the tail servo i use.
If you use all of the ELG01 servos make sure your stock esc is V2. Otherwise the bec isn't strong enough for that combo.

I mounted my gyro up front on the cf top plate. My rx underneath the gyro on the bottom side of the cf plate.

The E6-550 arrived tonight and I had the boom re-attached within an hour or so. Very impressive quality overall. The elevator servo link, er, A-frame, is the strangest, er, most unique way of controlling the swash I've ever seen. I had to look at a parts diagram last night to figure out where this part was even located.

I've already submitted a shopping cart at RCJapan for the A-frame upgrade, tail pitch slider upgrade, metal gear set, and a bunch of spares.

Reading through the instructions for the stock NHA-75-SB5 ESC, I was surprised to find that it has a governor mode that appears to be identical to YGE/YEP Governor Store:

"The governor at RPM log mode was designed for fixed motor RPM on throttle position mapping. At this mode, the ESC needs recording the maximum motor RPM after flying mode setting. Please set 100% throttle for maximum RPM recording (one time only after setting) and the ESC will shut down itself after RPM recording."

This is the exact procedure for setting Governor Store on YGE/YEP units outside of stating that the battery should be charged to 4.0V/cell for the learning. Has anyone tried this governor mode on the stock ESC and if so, did it work well?

Tried that governor store set up in my friend's E6 550 since mine is using a Jive 80.

Couldn't make it work but he has a V1. Not sure about V2.

I tried it with the VBar on my V1 esc. It was ok. It had just tad of wag that I was never able to tune out with it in gov store mode.

I am currently using the stock motor and YEP 100 lv esc. With a Neuron FBL controller.
This combo is working very well for me.

With the wide rang of head speeds this heli will fly at. I do recommend a esc with active freewheeling.
It can easily be setup to fly at head speeds ranging from 2000-2700 rpm with the stock motor and 12t pinion.

I fly mine for 4.5 minutes at 2700 rpm. It's a rocket.

Thanks for the info. I'll grab a 100 LV too.

Are you running Governor Store? If so, what throttle value does 2700 RPM correspond to? 85%?

To confirm, you're running with a 12T pinion? Where's the best place to pick one up?

The 12 tooth pinion comes with the kit. 12-14t pinions are available. The pinion in a mod 0.7.

I do use the gove store mode. I think my IU2 is 85-87. Somewhere in that range.

Forgot to ask regarding your YEP settings:
  • What timing do you run? 18 degrees?
  • 8 KHz PWM?
  • Governor P and I gain settings?
  • Start-up power?
Thanks!

I am using 12 degrees timing.
8 kHz PWM
default P and I gains.
Default startup power
Heli medium spool up rate.

Interesting. YGE/YEP indicate 18 degrees as low timing for outrunner motors, with 24 and 30 degrees being medium and high timing. Did you notice significantly increased temperatures at 18 degrees versus 12 degrees?

I have not went past 12 yet. Seems to make plenty of power. It certainly doesn't bog any.

I use 12.5 degrees collective.
My max cyclic throw in the Neuron is set to 10 degrees.
My rates are fairly high.
I fly mostly nitro so my collective management is getting better all the time.

Justin - how do you like the ELG01 tail servo? RCJapan shows the max frequency for it to be 300 Hz, which would seem to rule out a 333-Hz frequency with the BeastX. What frequency do you run your ELG01 at? I have an MKS HV9780 tail servo laying around which would likely be better performing, but I do like the JR servo arms.

Even with RCJapan's somewhat excessive shipping cost, parts are much cheaper there than at JR America. At least for the shipping cost, the parts arrive within 4-5 days.

Hi Justin,

What is the JR order number of the metal gear sets of the E6-550's stock servos?
