Default 450 Sport Tail Servo Upgrade!

Looking to upgrade me trex 450 sport tail servo. I believe the tail servo I have now is the align 420 plastic gear.

I have seen some 450's have the larger standard size servo. What is the benefit to this?
Will I need new tail boom mounts? Will it throw off my CG?

What servo would you recommend?

My buddy has the align 520 metal gear on his 450 Walkera. Will that work?

What about futaba or JR?

I'm looking to spend ~$50. What is the best bang for the buck in that price range?

I,m about to upgrade my Sport tail servo myself.I was thinking about the Futaba S9257 or Align DS 520 my self..Both are good mini servo,s.JR 3500G is also a good choice.(The DS420 is a micro servo)
Mini servo,s has two mounting holes on each side of the servo.Just put on the old SE V2 servo mounts and all mini servo,s will bolt on.
The servo,s listed above is much stronger/faster than your current DS420.This will make for much better tail holding performence.

I have been flying my 450 sport with the 420 tail servo for 1 1/2 years. It works Great and I fly that 450 sport everyday. never had an issue with it not holding.

I use the DS-520. It works great on both my 450 Sport and 250 SE.

I had the 420 which lasted about 50 flights, then quit. I got a Hitec 5084 MG that just froze up after about another 50. Started running really hot, then got so stiff i couldn't even move it. Now have a 9257 with 5.1 voltage reducer. Seems to be the best so far, but have only about 15 flights on it.

Does the DS420 work?Yes.
Is there better options out there?Yes
It,s a reason the Pro comes stock with the DS520
Anyway,just my two cents...

I've been using the JR3500 since my 420 bit the dust and i havent had any issues with it. Little more expensive though..around 70 bucks.

Futaba BLS257 will do. Expensive. I have that on my 500. Other people
put a standard size servo like the ds620 or 650 on their 500 tails.

I used a micro servoon my 450's, Robbe FS61 BB Carbon Speed Digital Cool.
A rebranded Logictech servo, so I've been told. Worked okay, but
it was on the helis I used for learning. I didn't quite abuse them, so
I don't know how well they'll stand up to that.

Cheers
Erik

I have had good results with the Futaba s9257. Cost is middle of the road.

On my TRex 450 I went through a DS-420 and a Hitec HSG-5084MG before arriving at a DS-520. I've only had the DS-520 on for a couple of flights but things seem much more solid with it and it runs cool. The two aforementioned servos were always quite hot to the touch after even one flight.
