Was that the 250 Tom? It's been a while!! Looks a mean little beast anyways Got a bit of catching up to do!
Decided I had to concentrate my employment for a while, as you all know its been up and down, but I could have backed a winner and wanted to give it another 12 months. Indeed, we are starting to get busier and more bookings to install the Units, but some days are very long hours! Still waiting to find out about a van, but my responsibilities are increasing, it will happen soon, so I keep getting told! So they have another 4 months max and if the money doesn't start rolling and the transport sorted, I'll be moving on again. But the signs are looking good. Once I get my own transport sorted to get down the club with my 600, I'll be back to do its FBL conversion! Everything still sat on the bench waiting!! Hope all the old crew are happy and healthy

Good to see you back! Hope to hear you're back flying soon.
Yeah, that's the 250. Yep, she's a mean little bitch. She's the most fun I've ever had in this sport! Got a couple vids of it flying on the video thread, abet, not good ones. Sutty will be happy to know my antenna issue has been resolved. Got my new Gopro hero 4 coming in the mail! I wasn't going to buy it yet, but the black Friday deals were to much to resist. Got $130 off, so I'm happy! Really looking forward to getting it as my Hexa has a new gimbal to test out. Really going to be a lot of fun getting some 4k vids. Especially in the Drak. Unlike the Ranger this bird won't bore the hell out of you getting from point A to point B! So, last item needed before the Drak shows up, a 2.4ghz video transmitter. Just a few building supplies left, gorilla glue, hot glue. That's it. This will be the most prepared I've ever been for a build! Feels,,, weird. Paint showed up today. Plasti-Dip neon purple and neon green. Thru the whole choosing process these colors kept coming back to me. Now, paint can in hand, I can now visualize how she'll look,,, and I like!

Should see the hero4 tomorrow.
Of course, I need a micro sd. Looked around locally for a Scandisc extreme plus U3 64gb. They don't exactly give those things away! Managed to find a black Friday deal under $50. Have it by the weekend. Then, test it out along with this new Mach 9 gimbal on the Hexa. I have a good feeling about the new Crossfire I picked up. I have the perfect spot to test her out. Just 1 mile from me is a new housing development I've been flying the Ranger at. A 1/4 mile east I get slammed at the same spot every time, tripping failsafe. If the Crossfire can fly thru that I'll be a happy camper, ( or caravaner, for you English type ). If not, I'll throw my hat in the creek. The way I figure it, if Trappy can hit 68 miles outside Shanghai or where ever, then I shouldn't have much in the way of issues. If so, then the rest of the uhf rigs will get upgraded. If not, well, back she goes.

Cheers Tom, damn frustrating waiting for things to happen, but I can assure it'is happening now. I spent a day with the boss today, and had it confirmed were booked all of December, and January even busier!! It's only the last 2/3 weeks it's picked up, and if I continue to earn at this rate for the next few months and beyond, then I'll be better off than I ever was, even in the early days, when I was still a didn't know shit office boy, or trying to run a business on my own as a tiler/bathroom installer and single dad and my dads own cancer scare. Think I'm getting my head round all that, and changing with the times. Anways, long may it continue and hope this really is the end of this long period of uncertainty!
Look forward to a pic of the paint job, and good luck with the antenna test! Not sure how my return to flying will go. Definitely want to move onto FPV, not sure I still like the smallness of the 450 with the way I'm throwing it around, so I'm sure there will have to be some updates to my fleet. So I'll spend the rest of the winter contemplating that!! And too add a little to the translations, Caravans are more like a motor home, but without the motor bit. We call motor homes, camper vans!! Campers generally, are people in tents/under canvass. But, with all the rain in the UK, you don't get many happy ones and I think we call a creek, a stream, but could be a mountain spring??

All my experience in English slang comes from watching Top Gear.
Damn, the mini SD card will be here Friday and I have this weekend off. Sure as shit, the weather is supposed to be cold as hell. Only thing left on the list is a new 2.4ghz vtx. I do have a 250mw one, but that might be too little. True, it's all about the antenna but with 16kmah and 115mph top speed I could exhaust range in a hurry. All I know is this springs Hartsel meet is going to be something else!

New Hero4 black, Feiutec fy-g3p 2-axis gimbal and lens protector with polarized lens.
Now for some good weather to test it out. Feels good to have the Hexa in work condition, again!

Jeez, I really shouldn't be allowed free time with nothing to do. Some of the thoughts I come up with.
Last Hartsel trip one of the guys who is really into long range came up with a rig to increase his video signal. Basically, he would first launch a quad and fly it high and hover it far out, using it as a relay and then launch his plane. The real interesting thing is it's all a one man operation. I thought, how to improve the range even more. The quad size doesn't matter except for endurance. His problem is he's burning mah's getting the quad into position. My thought, piggyback the quad onto the plane and bomb drop it into position. A 250, my hot rod anyway, gets 6 minutes. At 80mph it travel 1.3 miles a minute. Go out 2 miles, bomb drop it. This would give you 4 minutes of relay time before the quad, ( with Naza ), has to return to home. Set the quad as a drop and forget, auto flight. It's possible to de-tune the 250 for even more time. Why the relay, flying the backside of mountain peaks. I really, really need to get this Drak in so I don't have this idle time. Shit ends up always costing me money!

Ha, now that's just getting silly. Good grief, flying two things yourself, with the risk that the loss of one might cost the loss of both. Hopefully all the failsafes would work.
What are your thoughts about the FPV rules for LOS flight only? How can you guys avoid a police helicopter ripping through from behind your craft at say 120mph, and potentially your craft bringing the helicopter down, however unlikely?

The proposed laws, ( key word there, porposed ) are aimed at the commercial use. The president already passed law protecting the hobbyist.
Personally, I agree that =for commercial use there must be in place some laws governing use. In city, los only. Outside the city, los is stupid. Funny thing, about all these so called drone sitings from airline pilots. One of the guys I fly with owns a hobby store. You've seen some of his vids I've posted. A couple months ago he was contacted by the feds to assist in an experiment. Basically, they went to a field, totally cleared and laid down high visibility markers. Even had an arrow pointing to the area. The established a virtual "fence" and flew a highly visible multirotor in the area and had several pilots fly over trying to spot the drone. None could do it! Remember, this is a federal test. There 's no limit to how many stupid people there are out there. Line up 10 random people and ask them what you asked me. Maybe one person knows or even gives a shit. Get 10 people in a line buying a new rtf drone, Maybe .1 of them may have a clue what to do. Take 100 drone pilots, ask them what the law is, maybe one of them knows. Take 100 federal employees involved with figuring out this mess, maybe .001 of those has a friggin clue what they are trying to do. Truth is the FAA is already sick of it and would like nothing better than for it all to go away. Truth is I'm more concerned with the idiots shooting at drones. If anything, the feds ought to be requiring manditory maximum prison terms. Piloted acft have to be no lower than 500 feet agl. Drone pilots of all types are asked to not exceed 400 feet agl. You and I know 400 is plenty, especially if you are not out in the boondocks, like where we fly at Hartsel. What really annoy's the shit out of me is that everybody is jumping the gun. The feds want terrain and collision advoidence. That just does not exist yet. The feds wan the flight controllers to refuse to operate in closed air space. Only DJI has that and unless you plan on flying Tianenman square that is the only place their controller will refuse to work. No, the industry is not ready. Maybe in another 5 years, but not now. If the FAA gets all this passed the only thing they will accomplish is shutting everything and everybody down. What they want doesn't exist yet. Open any catalog, look at the drones, see any with sonar, terrain avoidance, collision avoidance? No you don't. It exists only at the most basic level. Sure, you can 'build one', the components exist, but nothing off the shelf, so to say. We only react in this country to 2 scenario's. It's not a problem until someone gets hurt, or we pujt the cart before the horse. Best thing that the feds can do is come up with a set of rules and an implementation a few years in the future. Use thios time as a grace period for the company's to implement the hardware and software to match. Until then, let the local government enforce the rules that already exist. Me, I use common sense to govern my actions. I'm a responsible drone pilot and do all I can to ensure each time the drone leaves the ground it is operational and controlled in a responsible manner. I'm the exception, not the rule. With the advent of rtf drones now the hobby is open to anybody with a few spare bucks. Fortunately 90% of these people will wreck their drone the first flight and just give up. It is an expensive hobby. Hell, I stoipped counting when my Hexa hit $2600. If I was trying to feed my family with flying a drone, then I guess I would be strattling a different fence. The only truth I really know? Cigarettes kill more people in 1 day that all the drones do in a year. Seems our priorities are all fubar.

JHC!
Just got done, ( sort of ), with a project I've been putting off ever since they came out with them. Changing out all my Deans connectors with XT. Don't sound so bad? Better take another look at my inventory. At least 20 freakin batterys, 11 different aircraft, a ground station, 3 different video receivers and a antenna tracker! Done I'm not, but close enough for now. Still got to change out 5 helicopters, ( later ). Everything that is flyable is converted. Thank God. What brought all this about is I got some XT90'S for the Drak batterys and found XT60's in bulk. What a freakin chore!

Ritewing receives their shipment of Drak's no later than Tuesday! God bless our custom's system.
Ordered more Plastidip. A white base to make the green and purple pop and their glossifier. Plus 4 different types of glue. Only thing left is the new vid system. Won't need that until after she maiden's. Ritewing has done a fantastic job with this. Just being so open about every phase of his dream child, but the attention to detail is so impressive. He's made a molded protective nose cover to house the video camera and the GoPro designed to keep the profile of the nose as unaltered as possible. Custom motor, custom motor mount and custom servo's stamped Draken on the top case! Suddenly, I find myself without anything on the coffee table. Now I'm bored. Decided it's time to get this antenna tracker figured out. Going to need that, I think.

Well, they did it. They passed a bunch of stupid rules governing this, specifically, aircraft registration.
Starting the 19th, if your aircraft weighs more than 2 sticks of butter, is flown outside and you are not.physically linked to the aircraft it has to be registered. It's free until February. Gee, thanks. Here's what I like, it's a direct violation to section 336. But, by kicking this forward and offering free, they hope to get us rolling before the lawsuits hit. It's almost impossible to stop once the momentum gets going. After February, it's 5 bucks per aircraft per every 3 years. This means that is I take my 3/4 pound free flight plane out for a spin it HAS TO BE REGISTERED! PLUS, nothing guaranteeing privacy of the collected info!!! Our priorities are so screwed up. We actively support cigarettes but conceive model aircraft a direct threat to national security.

It's the 21st and it isn't per aircraft it's per pilot, which is a damn sight better, but still annoying for you. You get one number, for you, which you put on all of your aircraft, which can be out of sight, as long as it doesn't require any form of tool to access it. We will no doubt follow suit, as our other rules are pretty much the same.
As for whether it breaches 336, possibly so, but that will become evident afterwards. From the AMA:

My letter to Congress in case any of you are interested in writing to your representative. Its cobbled together from a couple of sources... Dear Legislative Representatives, The FAA yesterday passed an illegal UAS (Unmanned Aircraft Systems) rule in direct violation of congress's FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012 which included provisions to secure hobbyist, model aviators, and their aircraft protections from FAA rules and regulation. The FAA has usurped the law you passed and has moved forward beyond their given authority. While there have been some rare public events and concerns in the news over privacy and mid-air contact through the use of unmanned aerial systems (aka "drones"), the FAA's new rule is an unwarranted overreach which affects ALL RC Model Aircraft and Park Flyers between 0.55 lbs to 55 lbs (including autonomous quadcopter "drones" large and small, with or without cameras). The FAA, using unnecessary emergency rule-making provisions and giving the public only a one week notice, will now require a Nationalized Registration Database to include the name, email, contact, and credit card info of all RC and UAS pilots, along with a $5 Registration User Fee every 3-years for those Ages 13 and older starting the 21st of December, 2015. The FAA is using a 3rd party subcontractor to host and manage this data on non-government servers. While the FAA says the information will not be public or shared, there are valid privacy concerns for all, especially youth, and how the FOIA may come into! play. Even more concerning, the FAA said they may also use administrative action or legal enforcement action to gain compliance, including Civil Penalties up to $27,500 for failure to register. They state that Criminal Penalties can also include fines of up to $250,000 under 18 U.S.C. 3571 and/or imprisonment up to 3 years if one does not register. (49 U.S.C. 46306) Keep in mind, a lot of these aircraft are made of balsa wood, foam, or fiber glass and may cost less than $100 for park flyer models on up to several $1,000 for scale replica model aircraft. The FAA's registration component, fee/tax, and aggressive threat of penalties and imprisonment in itself flies in the face of common sense freedoms and smacks of what some would call soft-tyranny. Frankly, it is unjust and un-American, and the rule does nothing to promote and make aviation safer through proactive guidelines and education that ultimately help to prevent incidents. This new FAA rule effectively comes across a! s a money and information grab through a federal database to t! rack citizens ages 13 on up flying UAS, which they have no business doing. Ironically, in order to try and regulate, the FAA has also deemed all UAS and Model Aircraft as actual "Aircraft", which brings into play a whole bunch of contradictory rules and regulations that are unnecessary, unwarranted, and confusing to the general public. Of course everybody wants to be safe and courteous in the air, but the FAA's recent actions fails the public's trust and goodwill. I would rather see them continue down the public education path and build upon their growing partnership with the larger model aircraft and UAS manufacturing industry. That is where real progress is made, and this was the route the industry saw and hoped the FAA was adopting until yesterday. The AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics) was a member of the task force that helped develop recommendations for this registration rule and argued throughout the process that registration, if needed, could have made sense at some level but only for those operating outside the guidance of a community-based organizations or flying for commercial purposes. Unfortunately, the new FAA registration rule did not include the AMA's advice and recommendations. The rule is counter to Congress’s intent in the Special Rule for Model Aircraft and makes the registration process an unnecessary burden for all of AMA's members and others who have been operating safely for decades. I am disappointed with this new registration rule and believe that AMA members and the general public should be exempt from this registration requirement, especially as the rule is being implemented over AMA objections, a long-standing organization that has served our country and model aviators well since 1936. There! are hundreds of thousands of people who feel the same. I ask that you look into this matter and push for an immediate injunction and change of the FAA rules to be compliant with existing Congressional Acts signed into law by you and your duely elected coworkers. In summary, the FAA does not have the legal authority to regulate model aircraft per Section 336 of the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012 passed by congress. It states: (a) IN GENERAL.—Notwithstanding any other provision of law relating to the incorporation of unmanned aircraft systems into Federal Aviation Administration plans and policies, including this subtitle, the Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration may not promulgate any rule or regulation regarding a model aircraft, or an aircraft being developed as a model aircraft, if— (1) the aircraft is flown strictly for hobby or recreational use; (2) the aircraft is operated in accordance with a community-based set of safety guidelines and within the programming of a nationwide community-based organization; (3) the aircraft is limited to not more than 55 pounds unless otherwise certified through a design, construction, inspection, flight test, and operational safety program administered by a community-based organization; (4) the aircraft is operated in a manner that does not interfere with and gives way to any manned aircraft; and (5) when flown within 5 miles of an airpor! t, the operator of the aircraft provides the airport operator and the airport air traffic control tower (when an air traffic facility is located at the airport) with prior notice of the operation (model aircraft operators flying from a permanent location within 5 miles of an airport should establish a mutually-agreed upon operating procedure with the airport operator and the airport air traffic control tower (when an air traffic facility is located at the airport)). (b) STATUTORY CONSTRUCTION.—Nothing in this section shall be construed to limit the authority of the Administrator to pursue enforcement action against persons operating model aircraft who endanger the safety of the national airspace system. (c) MODEL AIRCRAFT DEFINED.—In this section, the term ‘‘model aircraft’’ means an unmanned aircraft that is— (1) capable of sustained flight in the atmosphere; (2) flown within visual line of sight of the person operating the aircraft; and (3) flown for hobby or recreational purposes. Earlier this year the FAA announced their Interpretation of the FAA Modernization. Here's how the Interpretation creates new rules or regulations in violation of Section 336: The Model Aircraft Definition. The Interpretation claims the definition of "model aircraft" applies to all Federal Aviation Regulations ("FARs"). The plain language of Section 336(c), shown in boldface above, makes it abundantly clear that the definition applies only to Section 336 itself. This equates to the promulgation of a new "rule or regulation." The Prior Permission Requirement. The Interpretation claims that drone operators must obtain prior permission to fly within 5 miles of any airport. The plain language of Section 336(a)(5), shown in boldface above, indicates all that is required is notice. This equates to the promulgation of a new "rule or regulation." The FPV ban. The Interpretation bans the use of "first person view" ("FPV") operations. The plain language of Section 336(c)(2) requires flights to be conducted within visual line of sight of the person operating the drone, but does not contain any restriction on the use of FPV. This equates to the promulgation of a new "rule or regulation." The Commercial Use Interpretation. The Interpretation defines commercial operation in extremely broad and nonsensical terms. Flights conducted that are incidental to a business (which are not considered commercial with manned aircraft) are termed commercial if conducted with a drone. Demonstration flights, whether conducted by manufacturers for marketing and training; for pre-purchase demonstration flights outside of a hobby shop; for paid competitions; or for paid flight instruction are all considered commercial. This equates to the promulgation of a new "rule or regulation." I also believe that the FAA violated the Administrative Procedure Act, the law that governs federal agency rulemaking, when it issued the Interpretative rule as an "announcement" in the Federal Register, without prior notice and comment. With its Interpretation, the FAA is not merely interpreting the law, it is changing its past practices and prior interpretation. Doing that requires that prior notice and comment be afforded the public. Thank you for your time and consideration! Best regards,

God bless America.
Seems somebody up high that does not have his head in the up-locked position got thru to the FAA. I will never say anything bad about our president again. http://www.faa.gov/licenses_certific...t_registry/UA/ Now if we can just get an unnamed contender to be done with his shock tactics and decide to take things seriously. Time to shit or get off the pot Mr. ***mp. Get serious or get out of the way.
