Default Winter boredom sets in, ghetto flybarless on crappy Falcon 3D 400 rtf

I'm being harsh on my little Falcon 3D by calling it crappy, it got me a long ways, but when compared to a good helicopter, well, you know.

Anyway, I had torn it apart and used parts to build an autogyro that ultimately was overcomplicated so I went a different direction. I decided to put the Falcon back together because I felt sorry for it, and when I was rumaging in the box of parts, I wondered how fun it would be to leave off the flybar. I weighted the ends of the blades with 7 wraps of electrical tape and then balanced them.

I got it back together, and tried it out today. Initially it was all over the place, and I thought for sure it would crash. I was chasing it with the stick, having to give extreme stick inputs to get it to do anything, which is in stark opposition to most who find stabless flybarless to be overly reactive. I looked at the way the head is, and the linkage reduces the throw from the washout arms to the grips. I checked the tx and I had negative 20 expo (+20 on DX-7) so between the reduced throws on cyclic and the negative expo on the tx, it was no wonder.

After several attempts, positive 60 (-60 on DX-7) expo got it controllable. The battery was getting towards the end of it's life, but it was surprisingly controllable not only in hover, but in forward flight. I was surprised considering how light these 400 size helicopters are. So while I don't think I will rush and pull the flybar off of all my helicopters, this adds creedence to some who have had success with flybarless and no stab systems. Granted, no 3D will ever happen with this helicopter, but that is largley because it is incapable on a good day.

So yeah, it's fun in a cool ghetto way.

My NOBAR flies better than any system out there!
Stab systems are for girls.
BTW, my NOBAR is far from being ghetto. 1st class all the way.
