After reading something on simulation speed earlier today I remembered that there was a feature in Phoenix to control simulation speed. I'd honestly never thought of what uses it could have but today I understood completely!
I'd been wanting to learn funnels but then read that it was simply a variant of a banked turn type circle. Problem was I couldn't really get either one right! I understood the principle but couldn't really get the actions going before crashing. I'd overcorrect the rudder etc and slip the other way etc. By slowing the simulation speed down I was able to see what I was doing wrong better. I realised that I wasn't controlling the collective well enough and that this together with back elevator is what drove the heli through the banked turn, With that I was at least able to get the circuit done and tried it on faster and faster speeds till I got it at 100%. Now my flying of banked turns etc has also improved. Was even able to get a sloppy funnel around. Still need lots of practice but at least I undrtand it all much better and was able to diagnose what I was doing wrong. Try it out if there's something you've been struggling with. I'm surprised more mention isn't made of this excellent feature.

Good to hear. I too play around with the sim speed. My recent trick has been to try autos with the sim at 125%, and then when I get back to 100%, it feels so much nicer.

Down to 80% is nice to start out inverted hovering.
Then work your way back up to 100%

Definitely be sure to work your way back to 100% (or more) before ending the sessions, or especially if going right out to fly real helis! I didn't once and almost smashed my 450 into the ground after a preceding "slow-mo" sim session. The real heli felt like it was on crack or something. Wow! Scared the bejeezus out of me for a few moments!
But it is amazing what kind of stunts you can do at 1/2 speed! ...if you're patient enough to wait for the heli to respond to your inputs. It's like flying in syrup, but wow, the luxury of having all that time to correct virtually any mistake. It feels good to know it's not brain capacity or intelligence keeping some of us from doing 3D, it's more about reaction time and familiarity with the moves.

+1 yes. And also don't use it for tuning the heli down if a certain model is too fast ( or slow) on cyclic for example. Then better edit model.
