Super low current?
Hi, in my mini p, the current has never exceeded 20amps, I run 3000rpm, 325mm blades and 6S. I find this very strange and why do people recommend a 50amp esc for 450 when you can get away with a 35amp (at 6S)? What do you get guys?

There really aren't many smaller than 50A 6S capable ESC's.
The only ones off the top of my head are the Talon 25/35 and the YGE40. Not everyone would want to run a talon on their heli, and the YGE40 isn't very widespread. Also one thing to mention, I believe your flight style is quite tame, and 3000 rpm on 325's isn't very extreme either, so you can't exactly make your setup a reference. With my setup which is more extreme with a bigger motor and 3500 rpm on 360's, I get 20A average in the flight (3min flight to 20% on a 6S 1300mAh lipo), and likely well over 40A spikes from what I've seen of heli flight logs. I could probably get away with a talon 35, but it's a pain not to have the in built rpm sensor, so i'd rather run the stock YGE60. I know the BEC is sufficient for the servos I run, it has a rpm sensor output, and active freewheeling. It's also lighter than an Edge 50 lite or a HW 50A V3, which both lack AFW. YGE 40 is the same weight as the YGE60, but lacks the rpm output.

Why wouldn't people want a talon on their heli?

It's a castle, but has no logging, no external rpm output and no Active Freewheeling. The internal gov also isn't that good compared to the gov store on YGE and Hobbywing.
The only good point it has really is being cheap and having a strong enough BEC. Also they definitely don't have the best reputation of reliability.

I'll get a talon maybe for my oblivion 300+ (when I get it...). The 50amp ice lite has been working flawlessly too.

The YGE 40 is the same size as the 60, so no size/weight penalty for that. Nothing but the Ice 50 offers logging in this size. I don't need logging on the Mini P, so I run the Talon 35 because it's light. 6s draws very low current
As for why people recommend huge ESC...Look at the Goblin 380. People say to run a 100a esc...simply because they don't know any better |

I run the Talon 25 on my 6s stretched with 360s. But only with the stock 6s motor and 3k rpm w/ 15t lynx pinion. I really like logging but on the mini I don't miss it too much.
I agree on the g380.... pointless to run a 100a esc when the yge 60 has been fine on 430mm blades for years on the p500.

Everything about the gob 380 is totally overboard
Funny thing is that I bet the mini flies better

g380 flies more precise mini P is more fun to chuck around I find mini P is a better smack heli as it changes direction better G380 is super fast in terms of speed |

G380 its pointless running a 100a esc YGE 60a is as big as you will ever need The G380 is tail heavy some people run the bigger 100a esc to give the front of the heli more weight so it has a more even centre of balance for smaller than 1800 mah Lipos g380 weighs same as P500 so yge 60 speedie is as big as you really need to go on a goblin 380. You do not need to run allot of headspeed on a Protos 500 to make it fly like its on crack 2800 rpm is plenty You need allot of headspeed to make the g380 to fly like its on crack 3600+ so most people prefer to run a bigger esc when running high headspeed |

Still running a YEP30 on 3s, 3000rpm, 325 blades. Its pretty tame with the stock motor, but a joy to fly. especially when the wind is calm i dont feel at a disadvantage at all.
Reason is just being cheap. for $13 for an ESC with gov i had to try it.

I fly both with the g380 the closer you push the headspeed to 4k the bigger the esc you will need.
Some guys use a bigger esc due to smaller esc's not having big enough becs servos on the g380 can draw a lot. Yes you can use external bec or external phase sensor but some people like to keep it simple. On the mini p I run a 40a yep with its internal bec. Not stresses if it fails |

Does the YEP40 fit inside the frame?

Cool. A friend needs a 6s ESC (on a budget) for his airframe and the only YEP60 I've seen on the mini was strapped to the side, which looked a bit naff. This would give him an alternative if he can't afford a YGE60.

Go for the YEP40. I have a YEP40 between the frames under the battery. When I built mine, I wanted the 60 but I was told it is too wide (slightly different dimensions than YGE60) so I settled on the 40. I have had no problems with the YEP40 on my 3s setup so the 40 should have no problems swallowing 24v.
