Default FG vs. CF

Guys- I had a really bad crash today, tore apart both side frames and the bottom plate. Broke my hatori muffler in half almost and my radix blades are toast along with other parts....the total to fix it is around $300 roughly. My question is Im thinking about just getting the silver fiberglass frames to save some money, it looks like the FG frames are about $68 for both sides and the bottom plate vs $160ish for the CF ones/bottom plate. Ive never had the FG frames so Im not too familiar with them, are they pretty strong and is it worth getting them? Thanks in advance.

There is another option........ Rotorworks frames. They are cheaper than the Align counterparts, and come with more stuff, including the press nuts to get rid of the damn plastic servo nuts, bottom horizontal and vertical braces, breakaway canopy mounts, mixture servo mount, and many other goodies.

for carbon fiber

for fiberglass

This is what will go on my bird the first time I need new frames. They are BOTH 2.0mm thickness too, that in itself an upgrade from stock frames.

My 600 is the sport version so it came with the fg frames. The frames are flimsy as heck!

If you add a few braces in the soft spots (near the canopy mounts and one through the middle and one above the aileron servos) the FG is fine.hn6016 is the parts i use to stiffen it up a little.Performance wise their is little difference if you do this. And gf breaks as well as cf does.Which you have proved in your crash. I would honestly say that ,for the price, it is worthwhile giving the cheaper frames a try. $70 is not a huge amount to lose if you dont like it,but if you do like the fg youll save a bundle everytime you have a crash. Weight wise you might add a few grams but the heli has tons of power to weight in my opinion.
Then you have the advantage of cf not sheilding radio signals. In fact , apart from looks i think gf is possibly the better material.
If you do go with gf i would go with the 2mm thick ones not the 1.6mm though.
One of the guys i fly with is pretty hardcore 3d and he flies with gf. so it is more than capable in this regards also. Let us know how you find gf if you go that path.
Cheers

I had the same dilemma when I last trashed my 600NP, I bought the 2.00mm FG frames and can honestly say I cannot feel any difference in the way the heli flies.

I see that some people are even dyeing the silver frames, presumably with Rit liquid dye.

I had the issue of forking out a big heap of cash for the carbon frames that I know I can and probably will break again. I would hazard a guess and say the 2mm FG frames are nearly as stiff as the 1.5mm carbon frames.
