Tested the 23t and new boom mount today after rebuilding it because of a servowire mishap. At 1950 RPM the tail is solid. 22t was ok for me but so is 23t. I just increased the tailgain a bit.

The heli kicks ass!

That's good to hear.. I guess the acid test would be something that really puts the tail hold under a severe test, like maybe sideways or backward loops or similar.

Not with total safety no. There is about 8mm clearance between the main and tail blades with the stock 106mm blades, so 115mm would risk blades touching. You would probably be ok 99.9% of the time but in theory at least it's a risk.

Further, the stock gearing is ~4.73:1 on the tail rotor. I do not believe the 23T front TT gear is in the stock kit presently.

The 4.73 ratio should be plenty of tail authority across the vast majority of headspeeds being used, I don't think there would be a need or benefit to running the longer tail blades.

Are you planning to run some ultra low headspeed? There certainly are ways to improve the blade clearance to accommodate longer tail blades if you truly need to.

I am still new to helis. I only do regular loops and some inverted flying so far. I could test it but I'd probably crash it. :p

Was it the red or the black gear that you stripped?

After all this talk bout gears stripping i pulled my gears last night. They had too much backlash and a white powdery look to them. I have 50 flights on this heli with no problems. I replaced all gears, front ones w new black 22tooth and red rear ones. I also lubed them up a little. I havent had any issues so far mostly running 2225 rpms. Im starting to think this problem is due to some gears not being made well or off a little. The new tail case is a good idea but does anyone know yet if the new 22 tooth red gears will fit or do you have to use the 23 tooth. I honestly cannot go down to a lower tail ratio cause even at 2200 rpm and higher gear ratio i have to use really high gains to lock my tail in. I think im going to use the longer boom so i can use 115mm tail blades

The old black 22t gears fit with a 5 minute modifiaction... so worst case the 22t red gears will need the same. i'd expect that gears being made now will be 'pre-modified' to suit the new tail box.. makes no sense to not do that.
