Default Smart Model 500 Size Sea King HAR3A

Extension to the helipad now complete, took some pics of ZH545 basking in the sun.
I have handmade lots of scale details for the fuselage, to replicate a Royal Air Force HAR3A.
She has a full cockpit, and a crew of four
I have asked the winchman to get rid of the 'airshow hand' but he just doesn't seem to listen!

The cockpit started out as bits of plisticard, and cardboard. The radio stack came from a scrapped F16 cockpit kit that I'd made as a kid and kept in a box with other bits of old broken models (you never know when they may come in handy ) The instrument dials were a kit from the web, but I didn't like the dial decals that came with it, so I cut some pictures of a Bell 222 panel from a Flight magazine and stuck them in and put some clear fix over them for the glass.
The seats were made from cotton buds and scrap balsa, the overhead panel is also scrap balsa and paper clips. I have been using mostly anything I can lay my hands on around the house (keeps the budget nice and low!). Crew are from a pack of world peacekeeper marines in 1:18 scale.

Made a life raft pack, to sit in the rear doorway, another low budget construction using cardboard, masking tape, and my trusty Humbrol paints.
Made the last two covers for the front end too, and weathered them a little.
Picture of the full size for comparison

Well done. Looks very realistic compared to the original. When are the mechanics going in? Take care.

Hi Don, the mechs are going in as soon as I've flown them a bit!
Kids are back to school this week, so should be able to have the garden to myself to give the T Rex clone mechs a maiden. Having said clone, think most of it is T Rex now, just frames and fly bar not Align!
Aiming for fuse maiden before end of flying season...

Krauley, thanks for the comments here's the picture I was working from.

Any RAF SAR version with the door cracked open has one on show, so thought I'd better make one! Have noted that since I made this, some have black carry handles not white, but I can live with it!

Made a short Video of the nav/strobe/landing/search lights.
Got the Lazertoyz V3 kit, and I'm happy with it. Good price, great service!
Navs and strobes (red beacon) are on from power up, then landing lights toggle on/off.
I've wired in 3 extra LEDs (supplied) to come on same time as search lights.
Real deal has another 3 white lights (that I may still add) and both the red (belly & tail) lights are switchable between red and white strobes...Maybe on my next BIGGER Sea King

Thanks for the comments guys, glad you like it

Its the same kit that RC Aerodyne sell http://www.scaleflying.com/SH-3-Sea-...ze_p_1107.html

I purchased the unpainted version, as I knew I was going to add rivets and paint her up as an RAF example

@yf222000 I note the use of the word 'model' !! She will be a flying model, I promise!!
Just need some stick time on the Clone Trex 500 Mechanics with the raised tail...

This is the earliest pic I could find of the fuselage.
I had already put some 'rivets' on the cockpit glass and made a sand filter for the roof.
Just so you can see where I started from.

Working on the cockpit windows today. I had cut the pilots window open, to allow in some air, but also to make it easier to see inside at the cockpit.
The more I look at the full scale pictures the more unhappy I am with how my windows actually look. The bar between the two parts of the side windows is far too wide, so I have cut them out and put in a new frame (with handle). Just in the process now of making the new sliding windows (waiting for the paint to dry) so thought I'd update my thread.

New windows are in now, may need to tidy up the paintwork though, looks a little shabby up close. May just weather it some though.

I see a lot of yellow heli in the display case on the first pic, inspiration?

So far, you have one of my favorite scale builds.

Thanks Krauley! I'd like to go bigger, I would like to do the century kit and have doors opening and the winch working + lights, full cockpit and as many scale details as I could fabricate myself. I think there is a new kit being worked on this side of the pond (waiting for more news on that).

I would have to sell this one to finance a larger model though...
huuummmm there's a thought, wonder what she'd be worth?!

I'm a little bit obsessed with Sea Kings, in particular the RAF search and rescue yellow ones, it has been said before.
I have a small collection of die cast metal Sea Kings in the cabinet but there is also a 22 Squadron Whirlwind and Wessex in there too.

I'm glad that you like my project

My inspiration was actually this model that I repainted and adorned with some callie graphics.

I see some ch-34s in the mix, including one in rescue orange. I'm working on stuffing a mcpx BL in a 1:48 version myself. Just waiting on rakon heli to finish testing and release the 4 blade head so I can complete the scale.

Enough about me though, I watched the video and your lights look amazing! I think that now LEDs are a mainstay, we can do so much more scale lighting for a fraction of space and battery usage. Did you do the rivets or were they already there?
