Question Gyro? Spartan DS760 or Quark

I talked to a hobby shop yesterday and they said there is not a USB programmer for the Quark yet and suggested buying the DS760 instead. I would like to buy the latest technology. Do you really need the USB adapter?

Thanks for your help.

It's not absolutely necessary. The default settings are really good.

BTW, the Quark programing adapter is available now:

You'll also need to purchase a FlashLink or BlueLink:

The 'stick' settings work the same on both gyros. I can't tell any difference in the way they perform other than the 760 seems to hold a little better on the smaller helis. Most people report it the other way around, but I found that it was more of a pain to get the Quark working right. The stock tape sucks IMHO, so you're better off getting the 760 with the regular 3mm tape.

Now that the adapters are available for the Quark, I guess it comes down to your fitting needs, The quark is smaller but with shorter leads than the 760. Personally, I just bought the metal case Quark for my upcoming Outrage 550 Pro build, I like the small size and the leads are the perfect length for the location I chose. It will be mounted on the top of the frame in front of the main shaft above the servos.

I got mine from Tennesee Drifter Heli for $142.99 w/ free shipping and no tax.

I am mounting mine where lithiumstatic mounted his JR in the pic below.

The DS760 is better for high-vibration environments because there's more mass to resist the vibration.

That's what the plate is for, but it ends up being more hassle than it's worth trying to use it. Especially in electric helis. I have the plate and all on my K3D and I notice quite a bit of difference between how the tail holds. I'm not entirely sure that I would even need the plate on my 50, but I haven't bothered to try different setups. It's held well enough for the time being.

Hopefully thats one of the benefits of the metal case instead of the plastic case...

The metal case is to reduce electrical interference. The plate is to reduce high frequency vibrations such as from a nitro heli.

I use four 760's, two Quarks and two Futaba 520's on my various non-FBL helis. They all seem to work equally well. One word of caution for both the Quark and 520, make sure your cables are secured close to where they come out of the gyro. Leave the barest amount of slack. The wires on these tiny gyros weigh about as much as the sensor unit if not more. If you leave too much wire dangling, it will bounce around and give false input to the sensor. So secure the wires to the frame or whatever very near the sensor for best performance.

And I agree, both the Quark and 520 don't need to be fine tuned on a computer like previous gyros. They work great right out of the box on any size heli.
