Due to the sudden loss at Castle East, things have been put on hold for the past few weeks...

But as with all things in life.... you must move on.

That being he case, the first prototype of the new tail casing has arrived in the belt drive format.

It is being fitted to the beta test ship for flight testing ( which has to be postponed due to foul weather )

This design also has a little few tricks up its sleeve that will soon be revealed.

I missed that. So sorry Richard, I know how you feel. You can't replace him but if Hercules could tell you he would now want you to give a good loving home to another dog. Take care. Ivor

I see, it has been pretty much the same over here, not ideal for a project maiden.

Night, I don't know what it is but every video you have ever posted has been against the back drop of a perfectly manicured lawn. This lawn never has crab grass or dandelions. There are never any leaves and the shrubbery and trees are always perfectly trimmed. In the meantime, you manage to work and spend who knows how many hours building aircraft like the world has never seen. How do you do it?

Trust me all is not cream and sugar...
Weeds.. OMG we've been battling them for weeks.. and only now getting a little head way.
As to the trees and bushes, that was a 2 weekend project last month.

BTW this to be the final design for the new boom block.....
Setup for a separate tail drive...

That's an interesting... but unusual setup for a separate tail drive. What's the impetus behind it?

To drive a 1000 class stretch tail with a HS running around 7 - 800 rpm

Richard, why a separate motor versus gearing a torque tube appropriately for that headspeed?

With a motordrive to the tail, its easier to keep up the tail speed when going so low on the hs, and you wont be needing to go bigger tailblades.

1) There are limited gearing options.
2) Allows for a constant tail.
3) Allows for the use of conventional size tail blades.
4) Load reduction of the main motor.

Ok, so, many of the typical reasons to go with a DD tail. Then why not just put the motor right at the back as well? Are you planning aerobatics with this thing? Making the tail true direct-drive really simplifies things.
