Thank you sir for your comment. Way to many hot heads carry guns.

I carry at the field because I'm often alone. We're so concentrated on our flying that we have no idea what is going on around us.

Sorry to drag the tread off topic.
Show me those stats. Show me the incidents in this country where someone is shot for theft. I guarantee you the statistic is minimal. The vast majority of those who carry a weapon in this country are law abiding. And for those that are not law abiding they lose their right to carry as well as their freedom. People can say things like "if you steal my heli, ill kill your ass' Big deal. And as for High School students carrying on campus its not going to happen. College campus is another story and who are you or I to say someone cannot have the capability to defend themself?

I would rather live in a free country with the right to carry a firearm if one so chooses, than in a country where in 1996, the government banned guns and took them away. Not good when the only ones in your country that have guns is the government and criminals.

I think when you have a class you have to go to that spend 2+ hours teaching legal ramifications it helps weed out the dirty Harrys.

Back on topic, I'm at least greatful that threw flying rc community watches out for each other so much that it a thief has a good chance of getting caught trying to steal something of size.

yeah its the same in my country, the ones that have the guns are criminals and for a law abiding citizen, its VERY hard to get one just to protect yourself, because our crime rate is sky high. I fly with two buddies in a lonley place it wouldnot be a surprise if one day we get robbed, but i like flying and if they come they can have whatever they want, i could always replace material things. Some other flying guys were robbed of their planes just north of where we fly. but so far we are lucky. The OP handled the situation the best way it could have been handled. No one hurt, and he has his heli and most importantly his life and his family. Those guys would get what is coming to them sooner or later.

Glad you saved your heli and were smart about the laws concerning your carry rights.

In NC it is an 8 hour class including about 1 hour of actual shooting.

Most people who don't have a CCW have no idea just how strict the carry laws are. You can't just pull out your weapon and threaten people. There are also many restrictions as to where you can legally carry. If you do shoot someone other than in your house at night you better be ready to go before the jury of 12 and have the finances to defend yourself. In the state of NC, you can open carry in most places and if you don't have a CCW and you carry a handgun in your car, it has to be out in the open and not concealed. I know in FLA or at least when I lived there it has to be concealed in your car. In TN it has to be separated from the magazine and ammo and locked in the glove box. Most states have different laws regarding handguns and how you can carry/transport them and having a CCW just makes it easier.

Don't confuse the people who know the laws and exercise their right to carry concealed with the criminals who don't know and don't care what the laws are. Just like the OP stated, he knew better than to pull out his weapon over a theft. That is another part of the laws that pertain to legally carrying a weapon.

Ohio the class all together is 12 hours with 2 being on range and 2 being just law. I remember the biggest things name brought up was that pulling out was the same as shooting in the eyes of law

Yes, in most states it is agg. assault to pull your weapon and threaten deadly force. In Az, which you no longer need a ccw to carry concealed it is not illegal to display your weapon to/at somebody. The OP was correct in deciding not to deploy his weapon.

Regardless of the state law here I still sit in on the training course for my CCW now and then, which most instructors will allow here. If you are going to carry, you better know the law.

I have to say to the op, glad you had the common sense and restraint to not draw on the perps. I am a longtime member of the NRA and carry my concealed weapon on a daily basis. The government it would seem is hell bent on taking our right to bear arms because of trigger happy fools. It would take a life threatening situation for me to even consider pulling my weapon. I only wished everyone had the same ideals. Glad you got to keep your bird..

Thanks

I really don't want to use my gun ever. This weekend when I was in OHB. my wife had some road rage in a parking lot. She was waiting for a spot and this guy gets into his car. she waited for a few seconds and the guy got out of the car. he then banged on her window screaming at her. she's armed but she decided to leave the school and circle around. My brother inlaw got on his motorcycle and drove over to put her at ease. when she circled around the guy and his car where long gone.
It sucked for me as I felt guilty being at a Funfly and her 200 miles away.
my brother in law called me and tells me thank god I didn't find him.

People are just going crazy. look at this school killing that happened in Conn.
