Default Fes Upgrades

Hey guys I just bought a Fes Fbl edition. It already has the battery fence and new tail box, I'm wondering what would be NECESSARY upgrades.

Also what spares should I get in my first order? Any help appreciated.

Just fly it. There are no upgrades necessary to go out and give it all you have. Tough bird you picked.

You may need a set or two TT gears if you don't get the adjustment right. Anything else would fall into bling or replacement parts due to crash damage department.

Thank you John, much appreciated. I was really worried about the plastic boom clamp, should I replace it with metal?

I bought the metal boom clamp a few years back thinking it might be a issue. The metal one is still hanging on the wall.

The only thing I would change is the weak landing braces if yours came with those.

Wow that's says alot john, I had screws backing out on my trex 500 plastic clamp that's why I was worried. But I guess I'll hold off on it. Mine is coming with the ridgid skids.

http://www.rcbooya.com/gaui.html

x5 is pretty tough

Main and tail gears
Boom
TT
Skid brace and skid set
Tail stab support rod clamp, plastic because sorry to say when your tail is struck it will break before it takes out additionaly the support rods. Cheap point of failure.
Main and spindle shaft
Links (ends & rod),
Assortment of bearings and screws.
I use SAB plastic servo rods, keep a few extra
Tail fin

Thank you very much for the tips. What are you referring to the sab plastic servo rods? And I read that the gaui link ends are weak should I buy the align ends?

I am still operating with the stock linkage. 5 years and over 1800 flights without issue. I may try the rcb canopy mounts listed above.

Kevin,

1. Have you got your motor, esc, fbl.?

2. Which pinion? Have you a head speed range in mind?

3. What kind of flying? Sport, 3D, smack?

I have a fully built fes kit with the formula tail box. Stock everything except I'm adding a HW100 V3 and ikon. I'm a mild to smack pilot. From reading I am aiming for 2500+ headspeed.

The heli is not in my hands yet today or tomorrow

depending on servo:

These are cheaper than servo gears.

Do those break in a crash better than the stock horns? I like horns that break

drill a hole right on the words "SAB" 2-3mm weakens the arm but strong enough. vtownnick does it with the stock kst 215's and his break every time right at the arm..so that's where I got the idea for the sab ones. but with full size servos usually the plastic splines strip inside the arm.

Arm has never broken for me but the arm to servo spline strip. Couple of crashes the link ball will pull out of the arm. Either one is better than a new servo gear set.

I think there are two upgrades for the x5 that make it a lot better to fly. The Nx4 yoke lowers the head by a couple cm. With the high battery and motor it really gives the bird an aggressive feel. The second is the tail
Speed up pulley.

With the x4 yoke I need the x4 linkage rods and main shaft? Am I right?

Hey guys, will the Formula canopy fit the FES, or are any other upgrades needed? Don't like the FES canopy, but Formula one looks damn sexy

If you get the Gaui Formula canopy to replace your FES canopy the canopy comes with the special short canopy posts for the rear and you re-use the long FES posts in the front.

If you get a different brand, you may need to get the short rear canopy posts.
