Default Compass Atom 500 Build Videos

Cool... I love 500 helis! One of my favorite sized electrics!
I got a chance to fly one of these at IRCHA and couldn't wait to get one.....

Compass and KBDD called me up on my birthday and said they were going to send me a kit for my birthday! Cool. They did not ask me to do a video of it but you all know me... Gotta do it as I enjoy doing it!

So lets get started!

FYI as informed by KBDD: the main blades don't come with the heli but we do provide them to our dealers for resale. Also the heli comes in G-10 or Carbon fiber frames.

Video Link ->What's in the box and Overview!! (22 Megs)

Video Link ->Step 1 - Servo Install (37 Megs)

OK I am skipping step 2-3 landing gear and boom install for video reasons. Thus step 2 which is really step 4 in the manual is next. I will come back at the end and do the boom and landing gear.

FYI because I am skipping tail boom install for video reasons, we will be removing the main gear to add the belt later. If your following along then add the belt now!
Video Link ->Main Gear and Main Shaft Install (18 Megs)

Video Link ->Swash, Washout, and Head Assembly (46 Megs)

Video Link ->Seesaw and Flybar Assembly (53 Megs)

Video Link ->Servo Setup (58 Megs)

Video Link ->Head Linkage Setup (59 Megs)

Video Link ->Tail Assembly and Install (60 Megs)

Video Link ->Installing the 8900G in a Compass Atom (45 Megs)

JR 770 setup vids for the Compass 500
See this post!
https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=95258

Video Link ->Electronics install (30 Megs)

Video Link ->Landing Gear and Canopy Installation (23 Megs)

That's it on the build vids!

Flight test. This is my 3rd flight after getting the heli trimmed and G770 gyro tweaking. In the video you will see a wag in some turns and piros. My gain was still too high at 19% true gain. I lowered it to 22 in my X9303 end point which is 15% true gain, and now no more wag or jerky piros. 15% may sound low but thats what it took. Tail still holds on hard punch outs, etc. DO NOT worry that your gain on this gyro is too low! My SolidG is this number on my logo too....
Anyway here is the video:
Video Link ->Flight Testing (64 Megs)

Added on 12/8. Flight test using Align blades and looking for any phasing issues with them.
OK so I tested the Align blades as asked. I felt NO phasing issues sorry... In fact I think I like them better than the rotor-tech blades
Oh and also after looking carefully, I found that the Trex500 also has a little phasing built int he head! I checked 3 500's and sure enough there is a little phasing in it. Not as much as the Compass but it has some for sure.
Anyway here is the video.

Hi Bob,

Shouldn't you have fitted the belt around the main gear before you fitted the mainshaft?

Cheers

As I said I will be doing the tail boom later for video reasons so I will be removing the main gear again. This is the same way I did the Knight 600e videos.

Yes, I think this heli is going to be one of the BEST 500's out there! The quality is REALLY good! Not kidding here folks! I am starting to really like Compass helis! They aren't cheap stuff and seem to go together well.....

WAIT till I fly it for a while, crash it, etc, please and I will finalize my end results OK?

Buddy of mine won one of these ATOMs at IRCHA and I have been really impressed. Im still deciding on Trex 500 or ATOM and not to put pressure but your review might just sway my vote. Parts availabilty is kind of a quirk for me though, hopefully compass really comes into its own with this heli.. Im watching intently great job so far!!
