So here's my contribution:

Gaui 850Kv
Exceed RC 80A ESC
2x Turnigy 3000mAh 3s 35c
gearing: 16/42/19/61 HS around 2100
Stock 500mm woodies
92mm kbdd's on the tail.

I pulled 80A and 1700Watts with the stock Gaui 850Kv motor!! I figure those numbers have to do with the gearing. (I don't know if thats low or high, just the most I've seen on one of my helis)

Wow!!! What's the current sonsumption! 30A min and ~40-45A on average... What is your flyght style? I wanted to get some Turnigy 3S 3000mA/h @ 20C, but now see that I shall get 30C minimum! Or with 15T pinion 20C will be enough?
What was your battery and motor temperatures straight after that flight???????

I don't have a temp gun, but the batteries were only slightly warm, and the motor was hot. If you have the same motor, Id say get the 30c at least, mine are 35c, so that means my nominal amp rating on the pack is 105a so I'm in the clear.

I was doing hard punchouts, fast funnels, fast tictocs, reversals, hard stops, etc. I was pushing it pretty hard on that flight, using way more pitch than I should have. I just flew again did most of the same stuff, but with better collective mgmt, and the average amps was more ike 37ish peaking at 71, and average watts more like 800ish peaking at 1500. you can see a stretch where I was just hovering and the amps/watts was pretty tame compared to the rest of the flight at 30ish amps / 650ish watts

my gearing has alot to do with it, I'd say if you were geared lower, your consumption would be much less. my timer is set to 3:30 and If I fly the way I do I wont get more than that and stay under 80%. I could regear to a lower gearing and headspeed but thats not my style.

I thought i'd post a log of what happens when you run 16 degrees pitch. A big stuff up by me.

Just for reference, with 10 degrees max amps are 30. Flight started 5 mins in as was waiting for a remote control car to bugger off and there where quite a few stops as i'm still trying to sort the tail out.

I think i need to up the size of the speedy and some delrin main gears are on the cards.
But main thing is i fix it and bring it back to 12.5. The main gear never had a hint if wear until this debacle!!!!!
On the bright side, it didn't even hint at bogging but the batteries didn't like it towards the end

Cheers
Vas

74amps just flying about

16 degrees is crazy - even 12.5 is over what Gaui recommend so we'll look forward to some wild 3D

the 70+ draws were on on climbs.Alot of them Hovers are about the 13amp mark . I have one log where we got 3.5kw out of it 50V ,70amp. might as well have been welding. We'll see how she goes at a more reasonable level.

This is my personal second flight data logging experiment. Before this,i had i mate checking it. All i can say is that i highly recommend to anyone to get one. Without the data,we would have absolutley zilch idea of what's going on, especially as there was no bogging at all or any sign of lack of power/straining.

OK,

I have a Gaui 550 "On Loan" from a friend.

14/42/19/61
Stock Motor
Hyperion 80A ESC
Turnigy 2650 20C (very used)
Swinging SWE 550mm blades

Does this look about right for test hovers? (each flight was to eye level hover, except the last where I did some pitch pumping.)

The numbers at the top of each short flight are the throttle curves. Pitch was whatever it took to hold eye level hover. Pitch pump towards end was +/- 13 degrees. I was honestly hoping to get a little longer flight times out of it..

Pack amps in Grey, Watts in Green, Volts in Red.

I changed the front main gear from a 42 tooth to a 50 tooth, and still the heli was a power pig.

So I robbed an Eflight Power 25 1000kv motor out of a JR Vibe 500 and this is the result. (it hovers at a lower power output than the old motor just spinning the drive line (no blades)

After learning the X-5 is running the 4020-910Kv, I decided to get one for myself. I just installed my Scorpion 4020-910 Kv and HOLY CRAP!!! this motor is INSANE!!!. my heli has more power than I have ever had (had the Z-30 1110Kv before this), and climbs out like there's no tomorrow, its like a rocket!!. everything came down cool to the touch, and I only put back 1500 mAh in a 3300mAh pack after 3 minutes!!! my flight gauge tells me I could have flown for close to 6 minutes and stayed under 80%. I am running 6s pack, 550's and geard to 16/50/20/61 (9.53:1 ratio) and the HS is around 2000.

I got this motor for $89 at helidirect (now its not listed there, maybe I got the last one), roughly the same price as the Z-30 series, but WAY better performance IMO.

(btw, the Hyperion 4020-910 is the EXACT same motor, it is made by Scorpion, just different colors.)
here are some ET caps from the first flight on this motor.

.........min / max / ave
watts 34.83 / 2000 / 646.03
amps 1.38 / 95.5 / 28.78
RPM 98.01 / 2144.28 / 1872.16
Volts 20.94 / 25.24 / 22.71

1546 mAh used over 3:13

95-90-95 th curve +-12º pitch range
