It's different in my view. On mine the chamfer wasn't squeezing in as I tightened the bolt. The sleeve was tight in the entire grip arm hole.

doesnt sound like that from your description of it - it behaved exactly the same as it did in my setup and other setups described here.

but never mind. Important is that it's solved

Default Tail Upgrade

Hello, just bought two X7's
Planning one three bladed and one Std
After reading all this I am considering the tail upgrade for the Std, what do I need for it?
Tail Hub 6mm
Tail Shaft 6mm
Diferent bearings? Gears?

Any help will be much appreciated

If you're not running high headspeeds and getting the tail hum, the upgrade may not be needed. I did it anyway because it was too cheap and easy not to do. Ordered the 6mm tail hub and output shaft from Anythingheli (the best!):

http://www.anythingheli.com/gaui-new...4-gaui-x7-nx7/

http://www.anythingheli.com/gaui-tai...e-gaui-x7-nx7/

The only other minor issue you may or may not have is what's discussed at the end of this thread...you can get a little binding when tightening up the grip arm bolts. A little sanding and/or reaming will take care of it.

Just got myself an X7. Had some Protos Max V2 tail grips lying around so I put them on the 6mm tail shaft. Lets see how this goes. They don't resonate on my max with Rail 116s even at 2500 rpm headspeed and the 4.81 ratio, so I don't expect any issues.

Fit perfectly, just had to flip the MSH brass spacer around. The gaui one works too.

$30 bucks for it, and replacement grips are $6. Hopefully it works well.

Are these grips from plastic? And what brass spacer are you referring to?

Last week I had a resonance during an overspeed (sounded really weird but luckily the tail didn't explode...)

The brass spacer goes in the links that go in the links that connect the slider to the grips. The msh ones have a flange that usually go between the link and the grip, but to fit the x7 the flange needs to be on the outside away from the blade grip.

These are plastic grips. Very beefy plastic and the bearing arrangement is a little different from that of align and gaui grips. Msh said they designed it specifically not to ever resonate so I hope it works when I test it today.

Nice, please report back! Did you had any vibration issues in the past?

Nope. I just got it. But I'm running 2450 rpm with 105s so I don't want anything going wrong.

Ok. Then try to do some overspeeds, resonance is quite audible. Hope it's ok

Didn't get to do over speeds because my beastx tail settings aren't great right now, and I didn't have my manual with me while flying, but I cranked the head speed up pretty high and it all looks pretty good for now.

My 100% throttle on 14s gets 2800 rpm, and I inched up pretty high until the thing sounded like it was going to pop, but there was absolutely no resonance with 105s. The tail fin didn't move the slightest. Still somewhat inconclusive for now, but looks good so far. I will try 115s next time.

Be careful - such high rpm with 700 blades is not what the head is designed for. Also i believe your rpm should be higher with 14s max throttle.

I didn't go past 87 percent. Pretty sure I stayed under 2600 and I had light blades on too. Didn't sustain max speed because I increased the rpm only in pulses that last no longer than an average overspeed either. I have a 450kv motor with a 12t pinion. Max throttle is 2797 rpm.

Nice mod. About a year of R&D went into the max tail design to make is resonant free running 115 tail blades at extreme rpm. The yield of the tail grips is designed at 4500 RPM. Really it's the best tail system in existence and it's why the max tail performance has not match. (-:

It's all optimized for extreme over speeds on the max, even the brain governor we spent 4 months tuning it to have an instant rpm recovery after loading the heli right after the over speed. (-:

maybe the best option is the Goblin tail, that has internal damping ...

That is true, however it is a much more difficult mod. The goblin tail requires the entire shaft to be changed because the goblin tail hub is one piece with the shaft. The Gaui torque tube gears require a hole drilled in the shaft at a specific location which means the goblin shaft needs to be drilled. Definitely doable, but I just opted for the protos grips because it was just plug and play.

yes indeed it's more complicated.

I'm curious to your testresult with the Protos Max blade holders.
I'd looked into them and saw that they also incorporate the sometimes so-called "chinese weights" in order to require less force required for the tailservo. So I would also think that you have to change your tailsettings in your fbless. Please report back your findings.

By the way, this is the order number for the total tail rotor set : MSH71048 (it's a bit overkill since you'd only need the blade grips and the thrust bearings...)
