I hold it in my hand with a rubber glove.
The rubber is for extra grip and to prevent hammering on my hand, especially with large motors.

I use a kitchen oven gloves against the cold (because our oven is next to the freeze). But any glove will do.

You guys rock! It was super simple to punch out after freezing!

I damaged the stator but I lucked out! The Align 450m motor that I took apart first to test has the same exact stator. That one came apart easy and I did not damage the stator at all! Back in business! Now, to figure out how to fit all this copper in there...

How the heck did you guys fit 9 turns of .81mm (20 AWG) wire in this tiny stator!?!

This is only 8 turns (Should be around 2000kv which is what I want for my 11t pinion on the X3)

Ok, i unwound it and am working on getting all the green junk off with a file, but, is there a youtube video or a good description on how to use the nomex paper?

I have some 10 mil nomex paper but it seems pretty stiff, how do I use this stuff to protect the windings? are you supposed to soak it in water or something to soften it up?

Aceton will remove the green coating.

Nomex paper - there are many exampled in the forum. Here is a good all over review:

When you wind one wire it is better to wind all 3 wires together and go tooth by tooth instead of completing one wire and then the other.

this stator has not much iron into the hammerstalks and also not much magnetcoverage.
so it makes not much sense to try an extrem winding.
my suggestion: ad about 15-20% in coppersquare compared to the factory winding.
not more.
this would be enough.

the linked review is for another scheme and mode, you need normal abcabcabc.

Thanks for the tip! I already have the 20 AWG wire so I will try to get it to work since I have it on hand. And yes, I am winding it ABCABCABC.

I have a Compass 2617 8 pole motor on the way as well that I will rewind for higher KV, If it arrives soon I may just scrap this one as the stator is small and the magnet coverage is not very good.

This motor is awesome rewound with that copper fill, a few people i rewound these for agree.

I agree its not ideal with the magnet size or hammer size but the rewind is a great improvment over stock. My goal was just that.
I know it did not make the most powerful motor in its size but that was not my goal

Is the stator in the 460mx the same as the stator in the align 450m 3500kv? I'm talking about the old motor, I have one and I'm considering a rewind. I thought I read something about it being interchangeable, but maybe not...

Yup, same exact stator. The can is different though. The magnets are much larger on the 460mx

Thanks do u think a rewind would be worth it? It's on my x3 and kind of underpowered. And I'm running 360s so it's being overworked...

Are you sure your gearing is proper? it may not be the strongest, but should not be under powered. i had it in my X3 on 4 cell (3400) and it was strong, but the one i have now (hyperion/ scorpion) is better.

No, it is a difficult rewind, especially for a first, and the 450m can is tiny. I would save up for a new motor.

I just ordered a Compass 2617 for my X3 that I will rewind for the proper Kv, $22 shipped from helidirect for an 8 pole motor that should be considerably larger stator.

12n8p?

guess they had to go with that to get that kv in a tiny motor, my old x5 motor is 12n8p. I did that in 16 gauge yy, Its a pack killer now

Well I have a align 500mx and a Scorp 3226 I'm gonna try to wind, with the same wire awg and materials so I buy once and get two motors (obviously different winds) but then I'll try to wind the 450m
