Default Connectors

Im putting together an Align 550 with a 600MX motor and CC Ice 100/BEC Pro. I'm using Deans on my 500 and smaller helis. I was told I should use better connectors with this application. If that's the case, what should I use?

EC5 connectors are a good choice.

+1 on the EC5. Great connector and no spark at least external spark.

And another +1 on the EC5 for this heli.

I've just recently changed my 450's over to EC3's.

Once you've used the EC5's on your 550, I'm pretty sure that you'll be doing just that.

Switched from EC5's to Anderson Power Poles. Not looking back.
Had to go there.
I should clarify. I use APP's for battery connections, but I use EC5 bullets for the motor to ESC.

ok now, you guys have started to scared me with my XT60...
And wondering if I should change back to EC5.

The reason I switch from EC5 was because the metal inside the plactic connector was sticking out and I shortcut 2 battery while handling them.
I found that the metal part get loose inside the blue plastic over time.

But now, the XT60 may not be high enough in current.

I have about 300 flight (still learning, no hard 3D) so I am sure it is fine for now but when I will practice inverted, the current will probably spike (although, in governor mode, should be limited).

Not sure what to do now...!

The metal should not be sticking out and they don't typically work loose over time as you describe. Either they were not assembled correctly or you had some bad knock off EC5, there are a lot of cheap copies on the market.

The real ones are the eflite brand and the metal part pushes into the blue plastic from the back.

Before I knew the difference, i ordered some ec5 plugs from HeliDirect but they were manufactured in such a way that the cable had to be inserted though the blue connector, the metal pin soldered on, and then the cable pulled back through while the metal was supposed to be pushed in from the front.

I had nothing but bad luck with those knock offs, they didn't even fit properly with my other "real" EC5 plugs so i got rid of them and I stick with the eflite brand that I buy from horizon.

Ther newer EC5's from Hobby King work great, they are identical to the Eflite EC5's.

I've gone to Anderson Power Poles. Wicked easy to set them up and they provide a solid connection. I use them in my helis and pattern planes. Handle the loads easily and are always at ambient temperature when I land. Buy the proper crimper too. It is essential to getting a perfect connection.

It could really be that I did not assembled properly as I put them up last year on my first heli. Also my solder iron is not powerful enough I think (60W) for the 10/8AWG.
I will order some from HK and try again.

Thanks for your comment and explanation on the EC5 assembly.

Do you guys use 8AWG or 10AWG with EC5?

just last week i fitted a 8awg cable on a hobbyking ec5. i think it had room for even thicker cable, the 8 went in ok.
