Coldest Temperature you've flown in?

Hey everyone, just curious as to what the coldest any of you have flown in, Nitro or Electric. The coldest I can remember flying was in 10 degrees and heavy snow, with an airplane though.

So far, the high 30's. That isn't even really cold. I might go colder this year just to try it once, but it would be one of the run out and get the helicopter started before the engine gets too cold deals. I might try it in the 20's this winter just to try it, maybe colder for the novelty, but I will stick to high 30's for any serious flying.

A little squirt of lighter fluid in the fuel line will get it fired up no matter how cold. Obviously there's no oil in that, so don't use a lot.

I'm a wimp. Last winter I found my ABSOLUTE lowest temperature I can or want to fly in is 43º F.

Wimpy I know.. especially living in Minnesnowta.

Maybe a radio mitt this winter?

I live in WI and I've flown my heli in 5 deg weather once, trick is to keep it warm in the car and get it started as soon as you get it outside before it has a chance to get cold. I was just flying around for about 5 minutes before my fingers were numb lol. I dont think I would trust plastic links and such in temps that low for very long, I only flew once because I noticed my elevator was very slow and I thought it was due to the temp but it turns out I had a 94758 servo on its way out. Either way I didnt fly again while it was that cold, I just had the urge to fly once and that one flight cured it

Coldest for me is -10C (14F). Damn cold on the hands. Makes you regret buying those high MAH packs for long flight times!

I think I have you all beat. I flew all winter last year and some days it was as cold as -35 to -40 F!!! no BS. It was regularly below 0F most of the winter, didn't stop me tho. my fingers would be numb, and all the metal bits would be frosted over when I land.

I actually had to put on a sweatshirt to fly last "winter".. I think it was somewhere in the mid 50s that day.

Mid 30s. I love flying my nitro in such temps because it has a ton of power with all that dense air. I did use a transmitter mitt though.

I went out on -15 just to see if i could do it last year. I am in NE ohio and winter flying is generally the best. thats when we get good sky's and no wind! I have no problems going out in 10-20 with no wind for a few flights, I just keep my packs near my wood burner to warm them up and leave the heli sit outside for about 5 minutes to let the electronics adjust, before I run out the door!

+1 on winter air being calmer, same where I'm at. Also it's all lakes and trees around here, but in winter the lakes all turn into giant frozen over flying fields with wide open air and nobody around to bother you!! cant beat that

yeah but you're in FL, so go figure (hehe). Heck if I was to come down there for vacation, I'd still be trying to go to the beach in 55 deg weather.

10 Degrees. You can at least dress for the cold. Been snowboarding since they allowed it at the Ski Areas though, and ski'd for another 8 years or so before that.

While hanging at the field isn't an aerobic exercise, you can still trap enough heat to make your hands little radiators that actually cool you off!

I am probably wearing 80 percent of my snowboard clothes when out there hehe, plus an equal amount of warm weather stuffs.

Having said that, (I was with Art Hughes) we looked at each other after a couple hours and asked each other WTF we were doing.

Folks fly in Canada, if they are rocking it we can, albeit slightly warmer.

38F and drizzling was my coldest and it sucked. Below 50F I call it quits, hands get to cold and stiff to have precsice control or any fun for me, plus I don't want to fly with snot runnin all out of my nose

You lucky warm weather guys that get to fly year round. I could never live in Cali though because of the fires, earthquakes and all the other crazy sh*t that goes on out there . I told myself I would never live in Cali or any state that borders an ocean. I am happy to live my life in boring ass Illinois, the only thing I ever have to worry about is the occasional bad storm/ tornado.

Well here in Canada it gets pretty damn cold....i think the coldest i flown was -20*C (-4*F)....but only lasted a couple flights before saying "What the hell am i doing"

I pretty much wear shorts every day so for me, that's a given.
