Default If only had to choose one - TDR or Goblin

hi everyone...which one would you choose if you only had to choose one...and why?

My TDR is due this coming february..and now I am confused after watching couple of Goblin videos...its design is fresh n overall machine looks impressive...though TDR is an excellent stuff as well... I ordered mine after seeing a friend's TDR flying on field..i currently fly a logo 600 SE..i cant do hard 3d yet...just some flips n loops etc

Sorry if the question sounds silly...just wanted to hear what you all guys say..

Cheers :-)

Goblin has only been seen in pre-production models flown by factory pilots. Quality of manufactured components is as yet unknown. SIte of manufacture of components, quality and what is made by whom is also largely unknown.

TDR is produced by a designer with a long and proven track record and more than a thousand have been built and flown by pilots worldwide over the past 3 years. Quality of components is proven and most/all are produced in Germany.

The Goblin launch has consisted of the most promotion and hype of any helicopter I have known.

THe Goblin may prove to be the duck's nuts but it is not yet proven. Caveat empor!

My guess is the Goblin will be a good smack heli just based on Tareq, but everything besides that is up in the air.

Execution
Reliability
Supply chain
Manufacturer defects or design issues that show up when people start building them.

One of the reasons I went for a TDR is that it is a known VERY VERY VERY good quantity with lots of very happy customers, and many repeat customers for the identical helicopter.

Only one, i'd choose TDR, it's proven, there is a lot of question marks hanging over goblin's head, as they say, where there's smoke there's fire so i'm gonna cancel mine and wait to see what happens, yeah it's different but that means zilch, yeah it has belt drive but it's the secondary gear that usually fail. Some nice features sure but so has others like hv7 which incidently is responsible to some extent for the delay.
In the end you will buy it for the looks and to satisfy your own craving for having something different as theres nothing this thing will be able to do that a Raptor e720 hv 7 etc cant do, .
TDR is a specialised speed machine thats great for 3d as well but smack is not its forte, it just wasnt build for it.
That being said i like the Goblin and will most probably get one once it has shown to durable

Did you pose the same question in the SAB forum?

There is no denying that the Goblin is still unproven. But if it lives up to its hype, the decision can only be made by the pilot.

What would you rather drive? A Ferrari or Lamborghini? Oh wait, I thought this was the Ferrari forums.... Lol

Default It takes a week to 10 days to get Tdr parts

So that's not an issue except for all but the most impatient.

The TDR kit in the US is still $975? How long is the wait?

Default More like $1200

Its 900 euros delivered and 4-6 month wait. I paid over $1300 and waited a year. It depends on the exchange rate. It's worth the wait.

That's right. The 975 euros included their VAT tax.

Well, price and time-wise is similar to the Goblin.

The OP lives in Switzerland, so getting parts for a TDR is really fast. I get mine in around 3 days to France, not bad. Jan is fast on spares

Shouldn't that be Porsche or Lamborghini?

I am in exactly the same position as the OP. I was scheduled to receive my TDR in February but have delayed my purchase as I only need one 700 sized heli and the Goblin intrigues me with its very innovative design. However, I am not prepared to pre-order a Goblin as SAB does not have any track record when it comes to designing, manufacturing or supporting a new heli. I will make my final decision a couple of months after the Goblin comes out. By that time, any major issues should become apparent.

The other thing to bear in mind is that the wait list for the TDR will get shorter and shorter as:
  • Jan starts to catch up with demand. I put my name on the TDR wait list in October and was advised a couple of weeks ago that the TDR would ship in early February. That's less than 4 months from order placement to shipping;
  • demand for the TDR drops due to the number of new helis (like the Goblin) entering the highly competitive 700 sized market.
I may yet still purchase the TDR. If if I decide to go back onto the wait list in March or April, I suspect that the wait time for a TDR won't be that long if that is the direction that I take.

It seems that its better if I now go for a TDR and wait to see how Goblin performs in real world. If it does perform well then I might either add it to my fleet or replace my 600SE or TDR(?)

an off topic question: has anyone tried helicommand HC3SX unit on TDR?...I have a spare one which I used on my 600se only to be replaced later with a mini vbar.

Thanks all for the responses..
