Default What ECS should I get ?

Its time to replace my esc, It's the original esc that came with my 250se kit and It is now converted to a belt drive DFC with the original stock motor. What esc should I go with ?

Default Talon 15

Yes Talon 15 and it’s over 8g lighter than Align stock ESC.

Another vote for Talon 15 here, hundreds of flights, even with a 16t pinion and 4200 and 4500rpm. It's never skipped a beat, spools up beautifully smoothly, and is a ton lighter than the stock ESC too!

I'm not sure if there's a big difference from the 15 to the 25 as far as the BEC goes, but I went with 25s on all of mine and I haven't been disappointed. I don't know how hard you'd have to push it to knock down the 15A esc since that's about 180W continuous, so nothing sneeze at for a tiny bird like this. But it's been mentioned in the past. If you're running big scary servos then I'd want to make sure the BEC is up to the job. I had a ton of shut-down issues on my 450 with KSTs and a 35A esc. Not exactly apples to apples of course, but something to mindful of if you can really put the machine through its paces.

My Talon 15 has always been used with the stock cyclic servos, but has never so much as blinked at everything I've thrown at it.

It handles 4500rpm absolutely fine. I've converted it to a night flier without issues, and one of the UK Align team pilots absolutely hammered on it at a fun fly.

I wouldn't have any hesitation in recommending the Talon 15 for a 250.

The Talon 25 and Talon 15 put out the same amount of BEC current 3amp continuous and 8amp peak. So for the T-Rex250 you are only adding more weight by having the Talon 25, the T-Rex250 does not like the extra weight. An extra 10g is a lot for the T-Rex250, I don’t see any advantage in using a Talon 25 on a T-Rex250.

Like myxiplx said the Talon 15 is more than adequate for the T-Rex250. Mine is running governed at 4000 – 4300 and 4700 rpm and it gets hammered big time by one of my friends as he flies harder than I can. With all that hammering the Talon 15 has never once misbehaved.

The one Talon 15 I have has the micro connector on it. Do they all come that way, or do you have to make an adapter for regular servo connectors?

The Talon 25 comes with a regular connector on it so that was another reason I just grabbed a bunch of them (I got them for the same price).

I honestly don't notice the weight. I've flown light weight and low weight, flybar and flybarless, metal gear and plastic gear servos, etc... and a couple grams here and there don't make or break it for my flying style. It certainly autos better with lower weight, but with a decent motor, gearing and good blades they all smack around pretty nicely once you get all the vibes worked out.

I honestly don't remember. Mine has a standard connector on it now, but I couldn't tell you whether it came like that, or if I just crimped one on.

I went with the Talon 25 just to have a little extra current available to the motor, and a little less heating up of the ESC.

I must've bought one out of a 180CFX then. I'll keep it in case I can ever try something that uses the micro receiver but needs a 10A+ ESC.

Would be nice if most esc manufacturers provide selectable voltage range for the servos(from 4.8v to 7.4v) atleast. Not much revisions has happened over the years.

To be honest at the size of heli’s we are talking about here 250 / 450 you would not notice the difference in the voltage. You would only notice if your servo can only use a lower voltage than the min supplied by the ESC, hence no real need to supply various voltages.

Some servo operate at a low voltage only and anything higher can burn it. So to have an ESC with a selectable voltage options, would be good. With this option you don't limit yourself to only a selected amount of servos(the sky is the limit) no pun intended.

Not much has changed in most escs, with today's technology to apply this shouldn't be that hard to do.

But adding that option would add weight, which is the enemy in models this size.

I'm happy to accept the compromise there if it means I can fit a lighter ESC.
