Ok Freaks,

A request was made to have a FAQ's sticky made concerning 600 E & ESP build issues, drive train combination's, repair and replacement info and such.

Should make life easier for all here, this way the same questions won't need to be answered over and over again, and the newbies can search through for easier answers.

A request to all HeliFreak Members...

Common inquiry:

What is a suitable aftermarket ESC replacement to the Align ESC?

If your planning on staying with a 6S battery setup, the CC110HV would be a reliable and cost effective replacement.

But if you planning on upgrading to 10S or 12S ( with a suitable motor of course) the CC85HV will work just fine.

There are other aftermarket replacement, but I can not comment on them due to the fact I only own CC equipment.

So anyone who is using other than CC ESC's please feel free to air your thoughts.

More fliers are upgrading the stock motor's out of the heli's in favor of an upgraded version.

In order to install a Scorpion motor into an 600 ESP, the Frames will need to be modified to accept the wider motor (side note: there are direct fit replacement motors that can be purchased and installed without frame cutting)

The modification is fairly easy by using a dremel tool with a cut off wheel:

hey guys I am building a 10s t-rex 600esp with a cc hv 85 I was wondering why do people put a cc hv 110 on a 6s set up that's a lil over kill right correct me if I am wrong but that's good for t-rex 700e right the cells it holds and the motor plus it cost about 40 dollars more than a cc hv 85 thanks guys just wanted to know

100 amp is required for 6S due to current draw of the electrical system, If you increase your cell count say 10S your current requirements are reduced so a CC85HV is rated high enough to work on such a setup

yea couldent you just a cc 125 instead of a cc hv 110

I guess you could...but it's only good up to 6S so if you ever go to 8, 10, or 12 cell, you'd need another ESC.

Maybe this is the right place to ask a newbie-ish question about a T-Rex 600. I'm in the process of putting together my 600 right now and I'm deciding on components.

I'll just be running the power system to start so that means I'll need to pick up some 6S packs and I'm trying to avoid re-buying packs when I upgrade. If I wanted to upgrade to a 12S setup in the future what size 6S packs should I pick up? From what I've read most people running 6S packs are using larger 5000+mah packs while people running 12S are using more in the neighborhood of 3500mah packs. What is my best bet? Run 2x 3500mah packs in parallel at first then in series when I upgrade? Or should I resign myself to re-buying packs and grab some 6s 5000's for now?

It seems to me that the CC Phoenix ICE 100 will be a good lower cost option for people like me that want to start with 6S and then *maybe* run 8S in the future. It's still just coming out in stores, so I haven't read many reviews, but it seems to be a good stand-in for the Align Fireball 100A ESC. Also, the data logging is a neat feature.

Anyone using or planning on using an ICE 100 (not ICE Lite 100)?

I just went ahead and bought a new HV110 on ebay for $179 and used the bing cashback trick for 10% off. Was a layup.

+1 agree the ICE will be a good aftermarket replacement but it's limit is 8S so it does no good for me

O really? I saw a 110HV for sale on HF but I skipped it since I saw you sent a PM first. Did you not end up getting it, or do you have 2 now?

I decided to go new. I also already have a CC Link so didn't need another.

Something you new ESP owners should be aware of....

When installing your bell cranks AFTER you finish you'll notice 4 shim washers that are not mentioned in the assembly manual.

If you push/pull on the bell crank shaft, some if not most of you will notice side slop.....and guess what those mystery shims are for.......

depending on how much lateral movement you have will depend how many shims you'll need.

There has been a lot of talk, complaining concerning the main shaft being undersized and causing lateral movement in the head.

This is not the solution but an enhancement to the main shaft.

The undersized shaft slop can only be corrected in one of 2 methods.
1) A correct size main shaft either produced by Align or privately

2) The use of Loctite 680 ... LOCTITE® Product 680 is a high strength, single component anaerobic retaining adhesive for cylindrical joints. The product cures when confined in the absence of air between close fitting metal surfaces.

Here is how I incorporated the 3rd bearing block to the ESP frames.

1) Locate and drill the metal block mounting holes......(side note..Helifreaker My2cents has fabbed up a drill template for this, you might try to pm him and inquire about it)



2) Install and align all 3 blocks with the main shaft.....



The 3rd bearing was modified to fit into the metal block holder.

At the time of assembly of the head and main shaft into the bearing blocks, completely clean the shaft and internal race faces of any oil and residue, apply the locktite 680 and allow 24 hours to completely cure before proceeding any further.

If there is any question as to how well this works.....I have well over 100 flights against it and it is still rock solid with absolutely no lateral play what so ever.

Sweet fix.
Two questions;

1. What are your measurements for the vertical positioning of the shaft within the blocks?

2. If (more likely when) I crash, and the shaft is damaged requiring replacement, will the loctite 680 release or will the bearing have to be replaced as well?

Yep, you are right, I found it AFTER I finished.......
