Default New 550 with BeastX - tail help

Guys,

please can you help, i have a new 550 with BeastX which is awesome.

It flies great with no obvious flaws except the tail fin lower part is a blur, my gyro gain on JR is at 35%, but the tail assembly itself has a lot of slop including, slop in the tail slider, slop in the little brass bushes, and slop at the grips - i,m sure the slop is causing the issue, has anyone found ways of reducing this, or upgrades that help??

fwiw..

Sounds like something out of balance in the t/r....Try balancing or changing out the t/r blades.Be sure there is no binding of gears anywhere in the drive system for the tail....

Good luck, vibes can be hard to track down....

Tail fin vibration is common on the 550 with the 1.6mm tail fin, even with a new heli. Some will argue that there is a vibration issue, but I think it's more of a resonance issue. I fixed it by going with a 700 tail fin. It's 2mm and provides more protection for the tail.

fwiw...

+1 on resonance.....The old go-to for High freq vibes was the fuel in the tank...But that was way back when we had nitro........If switching out the fin is the answer, no worries...The MB doesn't seem to be particularly vibration sensitive...Mine was happier the more solid my mounting was....

I have the 700 fin, 2 torque tube bearings, and the KDE tail upgrade. Mine seems solid as a rock though I'm not a 3D'er. Also, running 2200 governed and 550's. BLS 251 on the tail.

Guys,

Thanks a lot, I too thought it might just be the tail fin as it seems super flexible on the ground, and the heli seems to fly vibration free everywhere else apart from the fin.

From your comments about getting the 700 tail fin cos it's 2mm thick, am asuming that the fixing holes are all the same as the 550. But is the fin not tailer, wouldn't a 600 fin be better?

The 700 fin is taller, but it still clears the ground with the main skids flat on the ground. The 600 fin is the same length as the 550, I believe. The hole pattern is common for all three.

You can always look into a 2mm aftermarket fin from Tarot or Fusuno. The Tarot you can get off eBay and the FUSUNO you can get from Helidirect. Hope this helps...
