M/R blade grips

I'm sick and tired of breaking my pitch horns off the grips and i was wondering, did any of you guys try the aluminum grips (O502). Do these break or deform too? The cause of these problems is of course crashing :mrgreen:

I can replace the tail boom no sweat, same goes to any plastic parts, i just don't want to risk repairing pitch horns and later crashing because of faulty repair.

I've got 4 different alu. aftermarket grips. I like the EF CNC 0502 Grips best. They are very stout. I've got 5 pair of them in fact and all the others brands are in the bits box.

just so you know....Blade installation is the most tricky with the EF alu. blade grips though. They require two alu. sleeves and two large washers to be aligned and compress the blade between. The overall grip on the blade is superior when done though. The ball is removable and is easily replaced....but Ive never bent or had to replace one......yet! I've been using them for more than two years.

I just got these precision QNC Main Blade Grips from midland helicopters.



Installation was quite difficult as i had to tighten the nuts inside the grips. The bolts that hold the blades and washers in are way to small so some more buying to be done.

Any experience on these grips?

Yes, I had the same problems your having. I liked the bearing setup better but found like most MH parts, the alu. is softer. I only got one set and bent the pitch link arm/ball and could not find another that worked as well. In trying to find another solution and fit it, I ruined the part the arm/ball attaches to. And that was that.....

They are very nice though and worked great once I got them installed correctly...up to when I crashed and bent the ball/arm. They did sustain a number of lighter crashes where the blades when to pieces without damage...just that one bad hit took them out. I'm not sure the EF ones would fair that much better in such a crash.

I have a "Shogun" 3d-x400 all cnc machine from Jappausa.com. Here's the deal: most of the parts fit on the Shogun. The main rotor hub fits a Shogun but the blade grip interface dimensions are the same as a T-rex. I put T-rex blade grips, feathering shaft, and 0-rings on my 3dx-400 and have an awesome rotor head. You haveto flip them upside down because the pitch link is opposite. I put 1/2 of a pitch dogbone from the T-rex on the head because of the 4.75mm ball on the Rex grips. Sounds like a lot of trouble but only took me less than an hour to do all of this. I have crashed the heck out of my Rex and never killed blade grips. So if you have some Rex parts as I do, I highly recommend this mod.
