Goblin: Scorpoin vs Quantum...?
Hey guys!
I'm hoping that by now there has been enough "hands on" experience with the new Quantum motor line to allow for some conscise group feedback as it pertains to the Goblin. My question is rather simple... Are the quantum motors just another good motor hitting the market, or are they a step up in rc motor evolution? Are they here to compete with Scorpion or dominate in the high performance/ high demand applications like the Goblin? Any issues with the bearings, or ESC's compatability, heat or overall reliability? I would like some constructive feedback before I spend the mountian of cash I have accumulated for my Goblin motor. Thanks Wiz |

For the price I would go with a proven commodity in an Le Scorpion.
Maybe if the quantums were $200 or even $250 maybe. Just my 2 cents.

Le scorpion motors are in a different class altogether, especially the new yy windings, but you need at least 65 c lipos to feed them our you may just as well buy the normal ones.they will fly but you won't reap the benefit

The new Compass motor is a hot performer. You may want to check it out. I have heard it performs better than the big scorpion le motors and is cheaper. Don't know about fitment in a goblin but that's easy to find out. It has the YY winding also.

I was wondering how long before other's started noticing this motor, it hasn't taken long. Looks like the cats out of the bag now!

I love how people who haven't even seen or flown the new Quantum come out to bash every time it's mentioned.
The motor is still not out in the wild yet. only reps and other people with connections have them as of yet. the impressions are very good and there are several people here that had LEs on and switched and loved it.. It should be instock in the next couple days. and then we will hear from normal joes. Until I fly it myself I reserve my judgement, but will say every review so far has been extremely positive.

Not sure where I heard it first, but assumed it was fairly commonly accepted that the Outrage motors where phased out and would be replaced/renamed Quantum. I have also read they are made in the same factory that made the Xera motors and use very similar construction??

You have it backwards. We don't know who makes the motors. They started with an Outrage branded 4125 for the Fusion. Then it morphed into its own Quantum brand. It could be another known motor manufacturer or a new one. We don't know at this point.

@OnTheSnap... are you flying your Quantum yet? Now that would be a good comparison report since you have the Scorpion 4525 LE.

I have had the quantum on my goblin since day 1 and I personally love the way it's performing. I'm at 60% throttle curve on the heli jive and it's yielding me 2150 rpm on an optical tach. I haven't flown the scorpion LE so I can't compare but I am very happy with the Quantum 500kv motor.

With vBar gov at 2200 the RPM regulation was just stupid good. So it may be hard to compare if it performs similar. It will still be a good benchmark and verification that it works well with the Scorpion V ESC and vBar gov. A more exhaustive tweaking of setup (extreme pitch etc), is really required for a fair comparison. But I will give my 2c for my setup. |

A good test would be to disable the gov and do some speed runs at 100%.

Running my Goblin at 2200. Without a free kit I have no plans to risk the model at 2500 RPM.

It was just an Outrage motor? Outrage does not make motors. The one that was briefly for sale for the Fusion 50 was still the "Quantum" brand (whoever makes them) but with Outrage logo printed on it... I have one.. and I love it!... although it's not applicable for a 700 sized heli it comes down SO much cooler than my 4025 Scorpion did. A bit more power and a tad more flight time as well.

On my Goblin, I flew Scorpion 4525LE and Quantum 4530 from a few days.
Similar potency, but Quantum is much colder. Seems like a good motor... |

Its worth noting that the difference in motor temperature is likely due more to the effectiveness of the built in fan than any significant change in motor efficiency.
