Can I set up a 2nd charger on old 15V 600W PS?
I run an iCharger 308B off of a 24V pair of power supplies; love it. I often parallel charge @ 30A into 6S and it's great.
In my plan to start field charging off a generator, I'd like to have a second rig capable of putting 2C into a pair of 6S 5000mAh packs. I have an older Meanwell SE-15-600, which can do 15V, 40A ideal. I'd like to use that if I can to save some bucks on a higher voltage PS. To put 2C into a pair of packs, that's 20A, @ about 24V, something like 480W. Without factoring in efficiency, that's 480/15 = 32A from the PS. So in broad numbers, the PS can handle it. But I believe a 308B can't pump 30A from a 15V PS, can it do 20? The doc says it will do 500W @ 12V. I'm not asking for more, and giving it 15V. But I don't know whether the charger will do the 20A output on 15V input. Does this basically work? Thanks, Jim

you probably have a "306B" its a 1000W (or 50A input). so at 50A at 15V. its becomes a 750W charger. your 600W supply will be the limiting factor.
5S or 6S? 600W/(4.2*6) = 23.8A on 6S. 600W/(4.2*5) = 28.6A on 6S. 20 will be fine.

yeah, it's 306B, and 6S as mentioned. I'll probably try another iCharger, and if the PS doesn't make it, get another. thanks guapo-guy.

I always thought that a 306B needed 24V to get full output and if the voltage was 12V you get half output.
Anything in between would be an incremental increase in output. |

THE QUESTION IS, WHAT IS THE MAX POWER AT 15V.
page 10 of the manual has the answer. they add a 90% efficiency to the calculation.and have table for guys that are afraid of math. they estimate 675W at 15v.

Oh, that manual. Thanks. Their homepage is very "dynamic," under all 3 browser on MacOS: http://www.hillrc.com/
