Default Logging your number of flights

Hello freaks,

Got a question. How is it that almost everyone seems to know exactly how many flights they have on their aircraft?? Especially the mcpx & 130x.. Are you guys really keeping a flight log for mcpx and 130x ? Am I the only one that doesnt keep track? And is there a perticular benefit in keep track of the number of flights?

Just curious if I should start trying to keep track.

Thanks Gents,

Not me, I'm not good with timelines, dates, etc. I know I started flying CP helis with a Blade cp but I have no idea how may flights nor how many years I've been flying. Hell, I got to do the math to figure out how old I am.

Once a cop who was skeptical of the drivers license I handed him, ask me how old I was. I didn't help matters when I said I was not sure.

So keep track of the number of flights, not me. Some people are wired differently, to each there own.

I do know that almost every heli in the for sale section has "only been flown 20 flights"

I am too busy at the field to stop and make entries in a flight log. But when I am charging, is when I am sitting around making repairs or watching TV. So every time I charge a pack I record in a spreadsheet what heli that battery was flown in, how many minutes, how many mili amps, the IR of the pack.

The advantages are if I feel a pack is not performing like it used to, I can look at its IR and see that it has dropped. Or I can look and see how many flights on a machine and know I need some preventative maintenance. Some times I make notes about flights. So if I see a problem popping up I can see that it has happened before, I may have settings that are relevant that I have tried etc. Or I just find it interesting to know that I have flown xxx number of flights this year. Or xxx since my last crash.

Ohh.. and I have learned something about my self looking at the statistics. I tend to get restless around 100 flights.

My 600 flew the first 100 flight stock 6s, wanted more power and the next 100 were on 12s, then it was v-bar for the next 100. I don't know what is next, it is kind of a beast at this point. Did the same with the mCPX, stock for 100, then brushless. Now the 130 is getting close to 100 and I am putting aftermarket stuff to smooth it. Sometimes I fly it 100 and sell it to get the newest model. But that is my "got to try something different" number.

I have a log of all my Helis. Crash dates, upgrades, maintenance and number of flights of course.

It helps me a lot with maintenance schedule.

I keep the logs on a spreadsheet using google docs and gdrive. This way I can update the logs from any computer.

I keep track of all my flights and charges on my batts. On the inside of my X5 canopy is 187 hashmarks, 2 of them are red (crashes). My X7's are in my charger box.
I just like to know how long my stuff is going to last .

I'm completely anal about the fuel and running costs of my motor but if I did that for all the things in my life such as reviews of all the films I have ever watched I'd be writing and encyclopedia each week. For this to work for me I would have had to have logged all my flights from day one. It's a great idea though - maybe it's time for me to start.

Never keep track of flights.
Just try to fly my best (not very good yet, just a noob) & keep them in the air.
If they come home in one piece they get a good checkover for next time.

I only started counting with my first 'large' CP heli (Blade 400). I never count my mcpx/msr as heli flights.. that's more in the sim realm.. and I never keep tabs on sim hours.

Currently only my 550 and 600 are increasing my totals. I use google docs spreadsheet that I can update at the field on my phone or usually just when I get home.

I use T3chDad RC Flight Log on my phone to record my flights and crashes. It also tracks battery usage, so I can tell how many flights I have on a given pack.

I think there are versions for both Android and Apple platforms.

http://t3chdad.com/flightlog/

I want the data so I can keep track of maintenance items and can tell whether that extra money for a good battery actually resulted in more flights.

Thanks guys. Appreciate everyone's input. Maybe once I get a larger machine I'll start to keep better track.

I mark charge cycles on each batt with a sharpie, tri flow chassis bearings avery few outings and oil motor bearings every other outing. Thrust bearings get greased every couple months.
