Default Image stabilization software?

Ive done some searching around on here and haven't really found what I'm looking for. What software do yall like using to soften or stabilize video? I have Adobe Premiere, is there a plug in that will do it? Any other cheap or freeware that works well?

I am new to the AP world, I had always had an interest but got bit by the bug last weekend surveying some fire damage for a friend. Here is my crappy vid, I am using a GoPro mounted to a Trex 550e.

Best for heli induced vibes so far is De-shaker. Its a plug-in used with a free program called virtualdub.

Virtual dub will only accept avi files without certain plug ins and add ons though.

The only software that comes with de-shaker is Sony vegas

Other stabilization software has been reported as not working too well with heli vibes .

After Effects has a powerful deshaker thats easy to use. Not as robust as VDub but works well with minimal configuration.

iMovie has a deshaker that so easy to use (just apply it to the timeline) that its not funny. The only downside is exporting in iMovie sucks. It compresses slightly and makes playback quality less-than-stellar IMO

Thanks guys, I had previously read about vdub, I was concerned about the video formats that it didnt support. I went ahead and downloaded it and the deshaker add on. The problem now is converting the .Mp4 that the GoPro outputs to a usable file that vdub likes. So far its rejected everything Ive thrown at it. Any suggestions for a conversion software?

Vdub works with .avi.

I guess I meant to say, I'm trying to convert to an .Avi file that is as loss less as I can get. Most of the different conversions Ive run convert the raw 550MB file and knock it down to around 75MB (looks like hell). Every one of which gets rejected by Vdub. They are all .avi files, but use different conversion methods I guess. Please bear with me, I'm very much a noob regarding video editing and conversion.

I've used the demo of this program quite well on the mac and intend on buying it soon. I think you can use it on windows, not sure though.

You might try Mpegstreamclip. Its free, a good program and "I think" it will convert to uncompressed avi

Really? I've got Vegas, and I can't find deshaker in it? What's it called within the program?

Vegas Movie Studio 10 Platinum has a stabilization feature, but it's not DeShaker proper. It works pretty well, though.

To convert your GoPro HD files to .avi, use Super©. It's a free program and it's very powerful. You can set it to simply stream the video to convert without compression. Works great.

Check this out, standalone software, pretty good results after a bit of tweaking.

The new version of Adobe After Effects (CS5.5) also comes with a new effect for camera stabilization, called "Warp Stabilizer". This effect will also (from what I've read) cures the rolling shutter effect.

More info here:

I have Sony Vegas 10 also, I think the image stablization works very well. It has six different levels of analysis from general footage analysis, fast moving scene analysis, slow moving scene analysis, etc... It also has rolling shutter correction.
I have never done any correction from a heli video because I don't have a good quality fly cam yet but I have done a lot with other video and it works well.
