Default Some days, you avoid a dirt nap!

I'm an old fart (in my 60s) and have only been flying Helis for a few years and the 550L for about a year. My coordination isn't the best and I'm not as rash as others in trying new stuff. I've only started flying inverted recently.

I have an AR7000BX so no recovery or bailout.

Anyway today, I was flipping into inverted when the 550L seemed to fall out of the sky (from about 70m up). I've now learned to "Keep Calm and let my muscle memory take over".

It got down to within about 2-3m (6-9ft) above the ground before I seemed to get some sort of control back. Still "muscling away", I managed to get it to a vertical orientation and hit full positive collective to get it up and "outta here".

"Nothing spectacular", you say. "We've all been there", you say.

But what I'm not telling you is that I have permission fro the local authority to fly in the public park and this all happened on a Rugby field. The heli was at it's lowest just next to a set of Rugby goal posts, about 75m away, and I had to navigate out from under the bar while trying to avoid a light pole close by.

When I got the heli back up, as you'd expect, I let out an almighty "Whooo"!.

Once the heli landed, the Castle ESC was signalling over current - so something obviously happened.

Some days, you avoid a dirt nap!

The view from where I was standing:

A closer view:

Approximate path of the heli during recovery!:

As you can tell I was feeling both relieved and pumped!
