Telemetry--most info/fewest sensors
What is the current state of telemetry info from ESC to radio, without separate (wired) sensors everywhere?
IE-- 1. besides Kontronik Telme Mikado (with Neo/VControl), does Telme system work the same with Futaba/Jeti/Spektrum/Taranis radios, and does it matter what FBL is used? 2. Do Jeti or Taranis (Horus) work similarly with any particular ESC, or do they require several separate sensors to provide the same info as Telme? Thanks--just checking |

Graupner has telemetry ESCs, but telemetry only works with Graupner receivers without something like a JLog.

Latest scorpion ESC speaks VControl telemetry without sensors.
However, and this goes for a lot of ESCs, the current value from a jlog etc may not be as accurate as a separate sensor. Not all ESC, in some cases not even very expensive ones include a current sensor and instead calculate the value for the amp draw. Kosmik do include the hardware, are calibrated and are very accurate.

Telemetry--most info/fewest sensors
One of the most versatile telemetry sensor units I've seen is the Unisens-E from Germany. It provides measurements of current/capacity, main voltage, receiver voltage, barometric altitude, and RPM (wire directly from one of the motor phases). It speaks the following telemetry languages:

On the down-side you have to connect it in-line with your main battery pack and add a small wire touching one of the motor wires (if you want RPM). On the up side, you have many good sensors in a tiny unit that probably costs less than a single TelMe and is compatible with many different radios.

I use Unisens-e on my 700s with my JR XG14. It works awesome once you figure out how to convert figure it which takes translating from German to English in Google.
I now fly with mah consumption which I love because I can go from a low rpm 8min flight to a high rpm 3.5 min flight and never over discharge my packs like with a timer and get max flight time.

Take a look at Jlog, it talks to most ESC brands and supports all the major radios for telemetry. It's the most universal option out there at the moment I think.

A JLog unit talks all the telemetry languages except Mikado VBC. It is the best setup all around. TelMe sensors are very limited. They don't talk to my Jive 100LV, or Power Jive 120HV, and they are purchased with a separate unit per protocol. So if you are using Futaba or JR etc.. and switch to Jeti later you don't need to buy new hardware. You just modify the configuration of the JLog.

If you want ESC telemetry and just about anything else, the combination of the Unisens-E and the JLog would cut way down on the number of sensors needed.

I think you mean either-or. The UniSens can talk to just about anything without jlog anyway, and I think there is some add-on if you want onboard logging.

If you're running a separate BEC from main power, the ESC current measurements won't take BEC current draw into account. The Unisens-E can give you overall current draw from the flight pack(s). That's not to say that there wouldn't be some overlap, but neither is a perfect solution by itself.

Is there a place in the US where you can get a Unisense-E?

Nope. You have to order from Germany, which isn't such a bad thing now that the Euro is almost even with the US Dollar.
https://www.sm-modellbau.de/UniSens-E If you don't understand German, just run it through Google Translate; that's what I did.

Brain 2 enables Castle, Scorpion, Kontronic, and Hobywing v4 without additional hardware. (Some you may have to move pins around in the cable) |
