Well, after reading the responses, I think I'm leaning towards 2 and if I'll buy more if/when I decide I need 'em.

I'll try to tune my heli's to fly similarly so jumping between both isn't hugely different, but 2 different FBL's makes it slightly more challenging.

I have a dozen each for the micros and just half a dozen 2200's for the protos as I find the protos doesn't get nearly enough airtime. The 2200's just get me 3 mins on my protos, I'm wondering how much you get on your 1800's.

I usually fly micros, so if I have 1-2 hours, I'll bring 8-12 precharged 450 packs or 180 packs. Otherwise half that if I have only an hour or less.

While a flight takes about 3-4mins I like to take my time, put stuff away, think about what I'm going to work on next, so effectively, each flight cycle is about 8-10 mins, I budget on, to plan on how many lipos to take.

I have three for the 500, six for the 450, three for the King V2, three for the CP2, and a bunch of lipos for the smaller stuff...

P.S. OP, like you possibly, I was going for small packs as my protos is not stretched and I was looking for good CG as well as good disc loading (1.6kg AUW!) but I worry that 1800 may not give you enough time.

I used to have 4-6 packs per heli. But now stick to 2 sets per heli and with 2 deep cycles I can stay at the field all day without any issue. My mind is leaning towards getting a Generator soon and do away with the deep cycles.

I'm buying these 1800's for an X3L. I run 2650's in my Protos 500.

7 same mAh same C packs between two models, a 6s and now a new 12s machine. Can fly all day between the two with a 1000w 6s charger.

Ah, gotcha. Thought of deep cycles and fewer lipos and even a genny but given I only have 1-2 hours max and it's mainly small stuff, I just parallel charge my lipos before I leave while doing something else, go to the field, empty them and return.

Default How many batteries do you buy for a given model?

I usually do 3 per heli and set it up on a dedicated tray/strap setup. On packs I can share between helis, I've got 6 (Pulse 6S 4500).

However, I recently moved and lost 3 of those batts though. Sucks.

I generally have 2-3 for each model, but I usually bring my Honda generator to the field, so I can fly all day.

I only keep 1 battery per heli and charge at 3c. By the time I get the battery connected fly, disconnect and get the next heli ready to go it's done charging. I also only fly down to 3.85V per cell so I don't have a bunch of battery maintenance to do when I'm done for the day.

The more Batteries you take to the field Pre charged the more flights you can get in your 3 hour time limit. I would buy 4

Respectfully, if that dog really surprised you, you need to pay more attention to your surroundings and get your heli out of the dogs' way in a hurry. You should have stopped long before you had to tell her to check her pooch.

just one lipo for my 500 and one for my 700. using deep cycles (and fast field charging) saves SO SO much money... especially with $300 stick packs.

Back to back flying ALL day long.. and not charged packs to discharge if I go home early.

For my aircraft that use small packs (Inductrix, 3D profile foamy, etc) usually have 6+ batteries. For medium size aircraft (48" Edge, 360 size heli) have 4 batteries. For bigger stuff (60" MXS, eXo 500) have 4 batteries, and Chronos 700 have 3.

Bought a generator last season and it's awesome for funflys and full day sessions at the field, but I still like being able to charge packs at home and spend an evening at the field without charging. That said I did already have most of my packs before buying the genny, so when they start to die I might try to utilize the genny more and keep a smaller inventory of batteries for the bigger stuff. I definitely do have concerns of keeping that many larger lipos in the house.

I only fly 2 heli of the same model and setup, helps to keep my precision at its game. I've dwelved into having multiple helis, but it quickly dented my precision by alot, as each heli have a different collective and cyclic feel.

So, I keep 6 Sets of battery for my X7 I rarely field charge. I try to go out as often as I can to fly, and 6 flights is already turning be a chore for me
