Default DX8 (Advanced) Stick Tension

Sorry about 'advanced' - but this isn't the usual question, that's answered in the manual...

I've been playing around quite a lot trying to get the stick 'feel' of two DX8s the same, and I'm having problems.

I tend to run sticks fairly loose, and the first thing you come across is that some DX8 springs can't be fully loosened off. (The spring pre-load adjuster fouls on a metal pin). Some careful filing to the adjuster can fix this.

What I can't fix, though, is the relationship between the centre detente click, and the travel tension. For example, one Tx will have a reasonably pronounced centre, with light tension at the extremes of travel; another won't actually centre with the same (light) travel tension.

Thinking about this, I reckon the centring is determined largely by the pre-load tension; whereas the travel tension is also affected by the spring stiffness. ie you can adjust how positive the centring is by turning the pre-load screw - but you're then stuck with a stiffer stick tension if the spring is stiffer.

I suspect that there's some variation in these springs. I also reckon I'd do better with softer springs, as this would make the adjustment more precise at soft settings, as well as better centring with soft travel tensions.

Any thoughts on this ? Anyone know of a source for springs like these ?
