All Align airframe except for OMG Revolution FBL hub, KDS 550 CF rudder pushrod, Lynxheli canopy mounts, Protek metric 12.9 cap head screws, Axial self tapping screws (boom mount and battery tray) I used Axial flat head hex drive self tapping screws with countersunk washers because finishing washers would not center properly on the stock self tapping screws. I'm using a Robird G31 with Hyperion DS20X-SMD's on cyclic, DS20X-GCD on rudder, YEP 80A and an Align BL600M motor. I get about 7 minutes at 2100rpm with the pack ending at slightly over 3.8v per cell.

Very nice, AS. I use the BL600M also. It's a very efficient motor. I fly 5 minutes of soft 3D and the batteries are close to storage charge. One thing I do with my 600M is to lube the bearings. I got the 550 when it was first released and a lot of others had motor bearings fail after a small number of flights. I started off using scorpion motor oil and now I use HeliOption bearing oil, about every 20 flights. The motor is still going strong, and the BL600MX I bought to replace it, is still in the box.

I've been periodically using Norvay INC. turbine oil. Stuff is a pain in the butt to store because it will climb out of it's container then down the sides and across whatever it's sitting on if you leave it for long enough. Those same properties make it great for bearings and shafts though.

If I ever need to replace the motor I was thinking of maybe using a Gaui X5 motor as it's also 1800 watts and I don;t really need anything more powerful. Viper RC also makes a 2200 watt 550/600 class motor that has good reviews for about the same price as the X5 motor.

One thing I found is that the protek screws have higher tolerance threads than the Align screws. You can tell this is the case by screwing one into a tapped hole on one of the parts halfway and wiggling the screw. The protek screws have about half the slop of the Align screws. I checked with calipers and the Align frame screws have a diameter of 2.81mm to 2.82mm on the threaded portion and a diameter of 2.85mm on the unthreaded collar while the protek screws have a diameter of 2.91mm to 2.92mm. The holes in the CF have a diameter of about 2.95mm. Because of this more care has to be taken getting the thread started on the protek screws but they have a better fit. The tighter tolerance means you basically don't have to worry about getting the frame lined up and the screws are less likely to back out and more resistant to stripping (though more care has to be taken to avoid cross threading)

This must be the best heli there is. Today I have put on Align 550-blades and really liked them.

That is sweet Danny. Do you have any issues with the top of the main gear rubbing on the lower rubber servo grommets?

My clearance is already so tight in there with the stock 170T main gear - the slant gear you're using (KDE?) is much thicker and would certainly contact one mine I would suspect.

not much clearance, but it works without problems. The gear is Align 700 gear, the M1/112T, really fat!

Dang monster motor and servos you have on that thing - must feel like a gnat in the air!

That is the exact gear i'll be running on my 700. Decided on the KDE 164T straight cut gear along with Revco 16T pinion and Lynx hub/bearing for the 550. Want to get a little extra life out of my motor bearings. I'm sure the KDE motor can handle it though.

Looks like you have the same clearance as I. I might just file down those rubber grommets. Their fitment is not ideal.

yeah, I don't buy new machines but I like to improve the ones I have. Have like 1000 flights with this one now and really love it. The servos have been there from day one, a few craches but they works flawless anyway. The machine itself have been quite maintenance free also.

Good with same gear, then you need only one gear in stock for both helis!
