Default Retaining connectors in Microbeast/Receivers/Etc.

Hi guys....

I'm gonna fly my 6HV again if it kills me someday but not until I reach a suitable solution to the subject. Some say shoe-goo others this goop stuff. A few days ago I thought haha I have tons of rtv silicone rubber that is black will work perfect.... non conductive etc.

After 3 days of curing to a worn out cellphone charger plug housing not so much, would take xacto to cut any connectors out of it. Looking for something that adheres well yet peels right off... what does that?

I saw a comment from Richard the other day about stacking 3M tape into the connector from below on a MB thread I think. I thought this to be a very innovative idea as I hate the thought of lathing a bunch of something about the wiring....

Best regards,
Tom

I use hot glue on my miniature servo connectors on my mcpx. Holds them on but peels off pretty easy when I take them apart.

I just put a strip of 3M 4010 clear tape on top of connectors. Sticks good and easy to remove and replace.

Thx for the replies guys... Yes I believe someone mentioned the glue gun thing previously as well. I mean you want good adhesion but tradeoff to that is having to work on it....

B I guess Richard's approach is similar to yours. Point being there is something better than just gobbing stuff on there. Everyone I think wants it all to look good ... DO NOT use RTV Silicone....

Tom, I swear by hot glue, i just put a blob over the servo connectors, then with a wet finger smooth over and leave. Then when dry break any of the wire like strands off.

Peels of a treat too

Some people use dental floss. You just wrap it around the device between the wires on the connectors. If you want to be able to pull connectors, you only have to snip the floss.

Here are a few shots of my areas of concern. Is this the right tape? I looked for 4010 or 4011 but this was all I could find around here locally.

Leaning towards the hot glue as a permanent solution especially if it is easily removed for maintenance. For now I am thinking use this 3M tape get it back in the air. I don't mind crashing that is part of the game but crashing because of stupid building practices I am really trying to get away from that....

goop stays much more flexable then hot glue.I just use a razor to cut between the connectors I want to remove then peel off the goop in between.

Tom,

Here is a photograph of the AR7200BX in my test machine:

You cannot see it very clearly, but you can just see the edge of the gray tape stacked up under the plugs

I have done this on the last two or three helicopters with very good success. No plugs coming loose or backing out.

Thx Richard for the pic yes I was curious as to how you were doing it I believe you posted something on the MB board where I saw it.... on 6HV using MB tape I have not had any vib issues and it is on the rear of platform I cannot stack it that way unless I redo whole platform. Scroll back look at tape pics is this pretty much what you are using?

For 7HV build gonna get MB/Spektrum combo as you try your idea tape stacking. Big platform there.... On 6HV I am thinking cut some of this 3M tape run across the top as someone else posted suggestion I think....

Best regards,
Tom

I was unable to get an appointment this week for an TWDHT (Tony Whiteside Destructoboy Heli Test) so gonna just have to rough it. Opted for the hot glue about to do it final bench tests almost complete..... Since I couldn't schedule that I opted for shaking the daylights out of it somewhat smashing into countertops trying to induce electrical malfunction. So far so good.... Saw a thing of shoe-goo finally somewhere may snag a tube of that to try I know Dominic recommends that. I like the adhesion of the hot glue and the precision of application but after 2 days curing on my test piece it is somewhat plyable but still is gonna have to be hacked off somewhat if you ever need to get wires out.....

Oh ya.... got to graduate from the Skunkworx Academy of Receiver Battery Charging yesterday, pretty exciting to get my crash bill! Luckily on bench doing final testing get her almost 100% rpm and whooooooom nothing every possible light blinking.... hot glue pics soon.....

I know I'm probably tempting fate, but I don't do any special retention of cables where they go into my full sized VBars except for the sensor cables. I bundle the servo cables up to the VBars and the bundling does a good job of distributing pulling stress over all the plugs. If I were using a BeastX or Mini VBar, I most certainly would retain the plugs better just because of the way they emanate from the unit.

yes the current MB plug configuration leaves much to be desired. I wonder if new Spektrum/combo the same Spektrum receivers are usually pretty snug....
