Tail wag, might be solved
I posted in my other thread that I loved this heli but had a small tail wag I couldn't shake. No binding anywhere in the servo, but I had noticed when doing the build the tail pitch slider was a little rough on the shaft. People mentioned that that will wear in but after 20 or so flights it still hadn't,
Picked up some parts from anythingheli and one of those was the new x series cnc tail case. I put it on last night and when sliding the pitch slider on the shaft...was butter smooth. I swapped the slider back and forth on the different shafts and could really see the difference. On my old shaft it got stuck half way and I had to really yank to get it off. So I think this may have solved the issue. I won't get a chance to test for a couple days though as its supposed to rain here all weekend.

Let me know how that X series tail works and if you had to do any mods for it to work.

No mods needed, just yanked the old one off and tossed this one on. Took all of 30 mins or so...would have been faster if the stock tail case hadn't been so hard to get off, you really need to give it a good tug.

Send links to the tail case, which one that is so I can see it if you don't mind.

Are you sure your orginal x5 tail shaft is not bent? I never had problem with binding at slider. Orginal tail bind at one extreme end where the slider touch the tail blade holder. Like i say in my x5/4 mod. X4 tail blade holder is will get rid of this. |

I guess it's possible it's bent but doesn't look to be. I'm going to stick it in the spares bin for now and later on if I need it I'll toss it on the heli and spin it up with no grips and polish to see if that helps. A guy at my LHS said he had to do that a few times with a scotch brite pad and it worked well.

I had a similar issue with the tail shaft. The slider didn’t move freely at all. Seemed like the shaft was just a bit too big for the slider to move freely. I ended up polishing it with some fine sand pad I used for static models.
I also had the same slight tag wag initially. I removed and greased both tail thrust bearings to get rid of the wag. Couldn’t tell whether they were installed correctly or not from factory because they both fell out of the grips when I was removing them.

Well quick update, my tail shaft was not the issue. Been dealing with the wag since the maiden and yesterday decided that since I got my new nut drivers it was time to check the tail bearings. Not sure if they were backwards or not as I just pulled them apart without checking. One thing I noticed right off was the cup the holds the bearings had the open side facing towards the tail blades.
All my other helis have this facing inward towards the hub....which makes more sense as more grease would stay put with them facing the center of the hub as opposed to the tail blades. So even though the gaui manual shows otherwise I flipped them, repacked with grease and made sure the inner and outer race were on correctly. Took it out and fired it up....no more wag. I know flipping the bearings didn't do it and Im pretty sure the the races were correct. What I noticed though was the locking nut on one of my grips was VERY loose...as in 4 turns and it was off loose. So I think that's what caused it.

So far I have yet to hear of someone having those bearings the "correct" way.

The open side needs to face inward.
It is indeed a cup holding the grease when spinning. Should be fine.

Correct, both of mine were backwards. Now this in itself would not solve the wag, I suspect one of my races was on the wrong way or it was the loose nylon nut.

what are you guys using for grease ? i used some grease we use at work on window regulators on cars. i took my tail apart tonight cause im still dealing with a dman tail issue and found no grease in them.
i put grease in them about 5 flights ago, i made sure the cups were facing inside. i never saw any streaks on the blades. where did it go ?
