HI,

thanks a lot for your message

The second stage is very solid, because it's already reducted, and the torque is better handled by a small ratio usage.

Most failures are due to heating / friction, using dry PTFE compounds helps in reducing heat generation.

Also, the Delrin has several variants, there is the DElrin 100 St used commonly ( but it's a mistake, it's a shock resistant delrin, not made for gears), natural delrin is very good but it is very sensible to friction and temperature due to the elevated speed especially on first transmissions stages.

Another possibility is to use fiberglass reinforced compounds ( PA6 GF xx) which is very resistant but it's agressive compound and the pinion used with the gear must receive a surface hardening treatment.

A full belt system is possible, but needs dampened belt pulleys and also a wider tail boom to allow the usage of large pulleys. the GOblin has, at the present time , one of the best transmission of the market. Only the main shaft gear needs slight modification but i'm sure they already modified this at SAB

BEst regards,
Fabien

Well.....this reductor was designed for mee by mee, in may ways is soo komplex because I want 14mm wide belt, joker, woodoo have 10 to 12, so no compromise hear.
Usuly I do not look for kompromises, I always use the higest qality of matirial and do not look after machining time.
Also this preduct was not made for serial machining, but for botiqe ( TDR is botiq isn't it).
You can make whatever you wish with tolerances and matirial,
but 7075 is 5lightyears in front al others Alu materials.

For me, the TDR is everyday flyer and it was designed with this in mind.
The whole design is working extremelly well.
As Klaus wrote, for using really high powered motors, you can try to improve some weak points, but a problem might appear somewhere else.
More robust heli of different brand would be better solution then.
That does not mean i consider the belt solution as useless, it would be a great improvement, i just think it does not justify the effort.
Like performance tuning a weak car, when you can buy better one for the same money.
But if you love the car and do not want anything else, why not.

Hi,

i fully agree with you regarding the stock performances of the TDR.

The reason why i like the Belt upgrade is very simple : it reduces a little the vibrations, the noise also a bit, but more than all, it looks nice (bling factor).

Sometimes, the pleasure is simply to have something a bit rare like a heli or an upgrade, obviously i woudl not have the need of such an upgrade because my flying skills would not allow me to approach the " rupture " point of these parts, but well this is like a TDR or a Goblin or a Sitar heli for those who have known these beautiful mechanics: we do not really need them, but we want them )))))

Anyway, if i can manufacture or help to manufacture a few sets for the people who wants these upgrades, i will simply be happy to do it, and to owe one set

BEst regards,

Fabien

My reductor arrived today and it is absolutely beautifully designed and made and is a credit to HSC.

Thankyou for a wonderful upgrade for my TDR.

Tolerances on the original design are too tight to get to a price point that is affordable, even by TDR owner's standards...
Don't think the tolerances need to be that tight, but have no intention of changing the design (as it is not mine)

Saw craigs heli in the flesh, the belt drive setup is beautiful, he said its a little smoother.

Just wondering if the belt requires retension or replacement??

Hello !

Why you are asking, does Craig have loosen belt ?

I have reetensioned mine after 5 starst and after that was all OK for a longer periode.

The data sheet from belt say 150 to 200 N for 14mm wide HTD 3M, but this is only papers......

Regards
